I've been looking for a relatively inexpensive first stage degreaser for periodic 'deep gun cleaning' tasks....

Found this at Fry's tonight - BullFrog Cleaner Degreaser. Looks pretty good to me - anyone tried this? 16 ounces, spray top, non-toxic, soaplike consistency. $7.99

BullFrog claims it is safe on Aluminized Steel, Aluminum Alloys, Brass, Cadmium, Cast Iron, Copper, Coppy-Nickle Alloys, Galvanized Steel, Gold Plate, Magnesium Alloys, Mild Steel, Silver, Solder, plastics, composites.

Lemme know if you guys have any advice to the contrary, otherwise I'll give her a go.

Can't find much on the web, just a company address.

Best,

Yeah, I've been using the stuff for a few months now. I ran into their rep & he cleaned a gun I had (that I though was clean). The stuff works very well! I've been using their cleaner/rustproofer. Up side too is that it smells GOOD! Kinda smells like pancake syrup :D

Yum, pancake syrup...

I'm always scared to try non-gun labeled stuff. Like simple green, and other stuff at the grocery store.

But hey, if it works, maybe I'll try it! Just make sure to let us know if the polymer is weakend to the point that the slide flies into your face, or down the range. If either happens, I hope it is down the range. But I am sure we both prefer neither. :)

I've been trying their gun wipes, a sort of "baby wipes" for firearms. Don't laugh, it's a real product! A guy I shoot IDPA with told me about them, they work pretty good, got 90% of the external crud off a .357 revolver after a range session and maybe 50% of the front of the cylinder and forcing cone area. This was just with light wiping, mind you. Made later clean-up quite a bit easier. Have not tried the other products yet, but I will pretty soon.

i wonder if anyone thought of using car wash soap? it's made for use on metal (unless you have a plastic car) and designed to remove oil (from other people's dirty muffler).
here's what i have in mind, mix some car wash liquid soap, with some dishwashing liquid and add hot water. put gun in, let it soak for 5 minutes while shaking it inside the water. take it out, dry it (oven, hairdryer, whatever). then you put gun lube.
that should be okay.
my hk manual specifies that you can soak the gun in any solution that is safe to put your hands into.
