What is the best way to mount a scope on a 6" GP100 without removing the rear sight? What mount would you suggest? Is a gunsmith required?

If you are talking about drilling and tapping the top strap I'd imagine a smith would be needed (unless you had a jig laying around) - if that is even possible on such a small ribbon of metal. What do you have against temporarily replacing the stock sight with the scope mount?

I like redundancy. I like redundancy. Just kidding. I wasn't sure what my options are, I tried to look for pictures of them with scopes or other threads there just isn't much info. I was hoping their might be some time of scope mount that clamps on that would'nt adversely effect accuracy.

Are you wanting see through mounts? I have shot a 30/30 with see throughs, but I don't like cheek weld problem (non-issue for revolver.) I don't care to deal with the trajectory issues with a high mount on a rainbow trajectory of a 357. It screws up the point blank of 3" up, 3" down since the axis is alread 2" up. If you are shooting toward a feeder or something that will give you a consistent distance I could understand the usefulness.
Short of having something custom built I think you will have to deal with removing the factory site. I could be wrong though. I love optics, but my lever gun and pistol will probably forever be glass-free (I've toyed with the idea of a red dot or 2X on the 30/30, but it is a top eject). That's just me.
I'd recommend getting close enough to not use a scope, or just bring a rifle. It is more sporting to stalk closer - that is appealing to me.

Try a Google Search --- Images. Use different words and see if you can scare up some pix of a GP-100 with a scope/mount.

Sorry... ;)
Something else I just thought of:
See if a gunsmith can put the Redhawk type of scallops/rings on the GP-100 for a more factory-like installation and appearance. Just a thought.
Good Luck. Be persistent. :)
