200 grain lead semi-wadcutters assembled by Dillon and myself. I use them for practice and matches. I wouldn't feel uncomfortable with defense use either although I've got some 230gr JHPs for that.

I've mostly been buying WWB these days, but when I could get a good price on it, I went through a good bit of Fiocchi.

Just about any 45 acp rounds that cycle reliably in your weapon should be o.k. for SHTF. I would go for the cheapest ones. That way you can stock up.

I shoot Blazer 230gr in my 45 auto. It's cheap and sold lots of places. I also sometimes use WWB in my 9mm.

Try Federal FMJs. They supposedly are very similar to their Federal Goldmatch FMJ. The bullet won't seat back into the case from mutliple reloadings. FMJ is the only thing that goes in my .45 and it's my SHTF ammo that I grab for. I practice with Federal's normal stuff, and load out on Federal Goldmatch. Never a hitch from the pistol.

I buy Lancer 230 gr., but it doesn't go bang 99.9% of the time. My experience with it is bang 100% of the time.

IMO, American Eagle and Remington are the highest quality budget ammo, but for practice I usually use WWB due to cost. I have had a few duds and other failures using WWB, American Eagle has never caused me a failure and Remington's cheap stuff has been exemplory as well. But since I handload everythind except 9mm and .45, it is less of an issue for me (I handload9mm and .45 as well, but for range use WWB is much easier)

I like fiocchi. seems like a hard hitter in .357 mag. partition golds seem pretty wicked I like those.

Urban & Suburban: I carry Speer Gold Dots: .45 ACP+P and practice with Blazer Brass;
Ex-urban (or whatever one would call trail running, hiking, etc.: Carry: Winchester Silver Tips: .44 Spl. and practice with Blazers, also .44 Spl. If I ever get back to actual wilderness camping, I'll replace the spl's with mag's.

CCI Blazer JHP (the aluminum casing kind).
Never fails, not too dirty, cheap, and that extra-wide mouth makes for nice large clean-cut holes in the target while practicing.

If you live around southeast Texas you may want to check out www.texasmunitions.com. They sell reloads and make all around cheap, accurate plinking and carrying ammo. Cheap enough to use constantly no matter what the situation your in. :D

Another CCI Blazer fan. What can I say, it's locally produced. ;)

Winchester White Box constitutes about 99% of my ammo purchases, so I will go with that.

Remington green & white box UMC 230 gr hardball has always worked perfectly for me. At times I even carry it for social purposes if that's all I have on hand.

+1 for the Remington UMC ammo. Fairly cheap and very reliable for me.

To be honest, whatever works reliably and puts holes in things you shoot at.

I have shot S&B, Winchester, and UMC for practice with no ammo problems. I have shot Remmington and Federal hollow points from time to time without problems as well.

Any 1911 problems I have had were from learning what to do and not to do as far as maintenance and cleaning.

IMI 230 Ball. It's warm. Serves the IDF well, apparently, so it sure should work for me. And it's cheap. :)

I go with the Winchester white box. Because of where I live (Mass) I can't buy ammo online or through the mail. I can get the WWB cheap at Walmart.

I have had good luck making my own with West coast 200 grn flat points and my Dillon. Good price, functions fine. Don't have terminal performance data, but I can make a lot of it.

I buy mostly WWB value packs. I also like the S&B and Magtech stuff. Just recently I bought a box of 250 UMC hardball locally for around $42, which is a pretty good price.
