If all goes as planned my wife and I will be moving to Bryson City NC soon. Are there any ranges in or near there? As far as that goes, are there any good gun shops up in that area?

Welcome to the area!

The only public ranges I know of are the two National Forest ranges. One is located near Andrews and the other just South of Sylva, in the Cullowhee/Tuckasegee area, which is known as Moss Knob. They both have covered firing lines with benches/tables and go out to about 100 yards.

The range near Andrews has a longer firing line, for more shooters, and is graded level. The Moss Knob range is on uneven terrain, as it seems they ran into an Indian burial site and had to limit the grading to the land. Out to about 75 yards, it slopes slightly downward into a gulley, and the 100 yard line is set up on a hill at an elevation higher than the firing line. It's still a nice range though, and the one I frequent the most as it's closest to me. In fact it has moveable target stands, whereas the Andrews range does not; at least it didn't the last time I was there.

As far as gun shops, I don't know of any in Bryson City. But, I don't get out that way much, so I may be mistaken.

There are a couple in Franklin: Bennett's Gun Exchange (585 Depot St.) & Spirit Gun Shop (1785 Georgia Rd.).

In Sylva there is Outpost Sporting Goods (4768 US Hwy 74 W) & a new shop that recently opened, JT Guns and Tactical (West Sylva Shopping Cntr., between Sylva & Dillsboro).

Then there are a few on up the road in Waynesville and even more in Asheville. On Target is probably the better known shop in Asheville and has an indoor range. There is also a pretty decent shop just outside of Hendersonville that has an indoor range; I forget the name of it though.

That's it off the top of my head. Feel free to drop me a line if you have any other questions. Good luck with your move.

Take care,
Steve
