I am about to start up a website devoted strictly to revolvers and had a question.
What would you guys like to see in such a site and do you have any suggestions?
I am going to start out simple with a few reviews and the like but I am trying to decide if I want to do a revolver forum with seperate forums for each manufacturer. I just don't want to take anything away from the High Road. I would rather be a compliment to instead of trying to compete with.
Let me know what kind of stuff you would like to see on my new wheelgun site.
If any of you have any graphic skills let me know if you would be interested in contributing to a logo contest. Probably for a nice holster or something. Not sure yet.

You'll have to offer lots of really interesting stuff to entice me away from the high road.

I would recommend against a seperate forum for each manufacturer. Other sites have done it and it's a real pain in the rear splitting everything out that fine. If you want to setup your own forum I'd suggest 2 or 3 categories, especially if you don't expect it to be high traffice and want people to continue coming here.
Reviews of different models are always good to read, assuming they're well written of course. Color photos also generally are very popular.
Good luck with the new site!

I would also suggest staying away from individual brands, and going instead with topics such as Hunting, Collecting, Sport Shooting, Reloading, etc. Maybe categorizing SA, DA, Single Shot!

Harry, great idea for a revolver only web site!
Here are my two cents on this...
I'd like to see manufacturer specific sections, but I wouldn't find it interesting for old and obscure manufacturers. Thus, I would limit these sections to current manufacturers and have special sections for antique and long out-of-production manufacturers.
Here are some suggestions for non-manufacturer Forum Sections:
Single Action
Double Action
Snubbies
Big Bore
.22 Rimfire
Mouseguns
Home Defense
Carry
Licensing
Legal and Political
Ammo
Reloading
In the Field (Hunting)
At the Range
Competition
IMHO, the vBulletin software (as used here in THR and TFL and many others) is the best I've seen for presenting threaded discussions.
Best of luck with your new web site.

Go with a manufacturer break-down at least for the Big-3(4?).
S&W:
Pre-Model Number
J-frames
K/L-frames
All Things N-frame
Ruger:
SA's
DA's
Colt:
Pre-War
Post-War
SA/Blackpowder
Dan Wesson
General Revo
Grips 'n Stocks
Holsters and Accessories
The Rimfire Revolver

I am probably going to go with the above suggestion and use the following topics for my forums:
Single Action Shooting
Double Action
Antique Revolvers (Pre- 1940)
Rimfire Revolvers
Ammunition & Reloading
Holster & Accessories
Classifieds
I will be doing about 2-3 new reviews a month on both new and used revolvers. I want this site to not only be one that people can learn about new products coming out but some of the great revolvers that are no longer manufactured and can be picked up at good prices. I know I wish I would have had that when I first started shooting.....would have saved some money.
I am already working on my first review now of the new S&W .500
magnum.
The site will be called
www.wheelgun.com
and should be up in a couple of weeks since I am still working out all the server issues (translated.....still building the box that will host it.)
I will let you guys know when it is up.
Also. I will be sponsoring a logo contest for the site.....will let you know what the prize is when the site opens.
Thanks guys

Ok folks. The site is up.....kind of.
I have the main page and the forums active and will be adding more soon.
Also I will be hosting a contest to design the best logo for the site.
Let me know what you think about it.

I'm there! You may still have some teething pains, though.

You might want to look into Invision board software.
But, one thing that a board must have in order to get anywhere..is participation. And I know I'm not going to have the time to participate there and at THR.... I'll stay here.
