Sledge Hammer!

August 28, 2005, 06:10 PM
Just watched the first of 3 discs from Netflix of the show Sledge Hammer!

I must say, it is very funny even now. He does a great Dirty Harry impersonation, and using the big ole revolver to solve all his problems :p

Anyone else remember this show?

I was very young, but my favorite scene was when he went to a church (I think for a wedding) and he was limping. He looked really hurt. Someone asked him why he was walking funny, and he said something like "I'm not wearing my gun."

I loved that show!!!

"Is that a silencer?" - "No, it's my own invention, I call it the loudener"

"Trust me, I know what I am doing."

The episode where he was forced to carry a mouse gun was hilarious.

That show was great.

I liked the way he would draw out his gun with a flourish, and then admire it for several seconds before swinging into action.

I doubt if this show like this could make it to the airwaves these days.

I've been wanting to re-watch this show since ever, but I was afraid it would be imbecilic....kinda like the original Battlestar Galactica or Knight Rider or anything else from my childhood.

Thanks for letting me know it's okay; I sure miss Sledge. :D

Looks like a 5" model 629 or nickeled M29 S&W.

As I recall, at one time, Sledge Hammer held the record for "most violent actions in a single 30 minute television episode"-- something like 40. ;)

Occasionally funny. Intentionally over-the-top.

I was hilarious when an off camera voice would always say, "Who are you talking too, Hammer?" when he was talkling to his gun.

I own both seasons on dvd and watch them every other month or so.

Sledge: "This isn't a precinct; this is Pee-Wee's Playhouse!!" :D

I love it when he's shooting at a target INSIDE his apartment and the neighbors are screaming and yelling for him to stop. Then the phone rings and he yells at the neighbors to "Keep it down!, I'm on the phone".

I like the line that goes something like:

'That's why I eat granola. You eat those donuts, and all that grease goes straight to your brain and you turn all liberal.'

I bought both seasons on DVD. Some things simply must be kept for the next generation.

"I'm going down to the arsenal on a gun run. Anybody want anything?"

Sledge Hammer was one of my favorites. I liked the scrimshawed ivory grips.

I was only 5 or 6 when it originally aired, so I never saw it on TV. But man is it great to see now, hilarious.

I always liked this little exchange-
Reporter: We're here at the scene of a liquor store robbery that was thwarted by the man beside me, Inspector Sledge Hammer. Inspector Hammer, tell us what happened.
Sledge Hammer: Well, Miss, I was in this store when two thugs entered and threatened the owner with shotguns. At that time, I drew my Magnum and killed them both. Then I bought some eggs, and some milk, and some of those little cocktail weinies.
Reporter: Inspector Hammer, was what you did in that store absolutely necessary?
Sledge Hammer: Oh, yes, I had no groceries at all.

This one gets to the core of the guy-
Dori: I've got an idea.
Sledge Hammer: Now you're thinking like a man!
:D :D

Loads more here-

Dori: The terrorist has demanded a million dollars, a private jet and an end to the Star Wars program.
Sledge Hammer: Yeah, three movies was enough.

So true!

I think i was in elementary school when that program was on TV. I remember being hysterical (as was everyone in the living room) when something happened along the lines of a sniper being on top of a 30 story building... and the captain told him to "take care of it" so he got a bazooka and blew up the building.

I think... that was about 20 years ago.

I'm going to have to buy the show on DVD.

Sweet. I heard about it here on THR, checked it out, and was glad I did.

I'm buying my dad the DVDs just because, well, he's my dad

All this has made me dig out the DVDs :)

Here's his unique take on the Miranda warning-
"Alright, I’m required by law to read you your rights under the Constitution.
You have the right to… to um… you have the right to um…
Gah! Don’t help me with this!
You have the right to um… the right to remain…
You have the right to remain.
If you want a lawyer, you have the right… to a dime. <whispers> The phones take a quarter.
Whatever I can get out of you, I’ll use against you.
Well I guess that pretty much covers it."

Looks like I'm gonna have to watch them all again. :D
