Saddam refused to go into exile.

If the US were threatened with massive damage by a country 100 times as powerful as us, and the ultimatum was the leadership must leave, do you think Bush or any other president would leave the country to save it? (Well, Clinton probably would if he were guaranteed 100 concubines).

And do you think going into exile would be the right thing to do?

However kowtowing to someone more powerful will only lead to one being steped on for all eterinty.

Given that there is no way on earth for Iraq to defeat the US/UK, given that resisting will most likely result in death or at a minimum being charged as a war criminal, given that a large number of military forces will be killed, given that some, possibly many civilians will be killed and given that he has a large amount of money in foreign banks, Bush or any other intelligent person leading Iraq would go into exile.

But FWIW - If Bush was guilty of the things Saddam was, was faced with the certainty of removal from office and probable trial for war crimes, and given the opportunity to get out safe and sound, then, assuming he has the ability to accurately self-assess, or had trusted advisors who could do so for him, I think he would. Nixon resigned when faced with impeachment. Clinton, of course did not, since he is apparently incapable of true self assessment. (See latest Sports Illus article on his golf game for most recent evidence of this flaw.) -Do not construe the foregoing to mean that I think that Billy and Saddam are morally equivalent. I do not. -
