Where do your guns go when you go to work???

I have a very large safe, a small bedside "GunVault" and my pillow. I don't have any kids at home. My wife has her M66 and I have some form of P7 on my night stand. In the morning, the guns go under the pillow. Now, I could put them in the large safe, or I could put them in the bedside safe. My concern involves someone breaking in and stealing the guns. I tend to keep out my favorite guns and the thought of someone stealing them is depressing. The bedside safe is not attached to the floor. I have viewed it as a childproof haven when kids are around. It sings out, "please steal me..expensive gun inside," so I haven't bothered to attach it to the floor. Little effort would be needed to pry it open.

How do you keep your house gun available and still keep it safe from thieves?

If the gun's not under my direct and immediate control, it's in the big safe. No exceptions.

Well, I have insurance for one. I, too, hate the thought of someone stealing my guns but they are all replaceable. Mine are locked in lock boxes that are secured to something and I have the only key with me when I am away. I also carry one gun with me at all times whether it be on my person or in my car locked away while I am at work or school or somewhere else I cannot take it. It sucks that we have to continue worrying about things like this. My advice to anyone with guns is to get insurance, write down serial #s and take photos, lock your guns up as best you can, and don't tell anyone you have them or otherwise advertise it (e.g. Protected By Smith & Wesson/NRA/etc. bumper stickers).

Oh yeah, and I just saw the thread on the mail you get and decided to put that here as well. If you are getting all this mail from gunsmith vendors and outdoor stores someone can determine that you have guns as well...

I live in California and all guns are not easily replaceable. Perhaps, I should only keep guns out that are replaceable; i.e. on the DOJ approve list. I think that I will make sure that they are insured. Never checked my homeowners policy for exclusions. Lock-boxes keep kids out, but not bad guys. I agree that the big safe is the only sure way.

Mine are in the safe.

I saw a special that featured a professional burglar break into a house and go through it as if he were robbing it. It was amazing how much he could find/steal in under 5 minutes. The bedroom was one of his favorite spots. Flip the mattress, dump the drawers. I don't keep anything irreplacable in there now.

As of today, handguns in MD are irreplacable.

I think they go out dancing. ;)

Really, since I have no kids, they stay where they are- the dogs do a pretty good job of scaring off any would be intruders.

All guns are locked in a safe.

Since I work at home, they stay with me. When I go out they go in the safe. Before I had a safe they were hidden all over the house.

Since I haven't yet bought a safe, all my expensive and/or rare guns are in bank boxes; the rest are reasonably well stashed.

One goes to work with me so that I don't get lonely and the rest just snooze in the safe until I get home.

Greeting's All,

Well, two of my handguns go with me to work! Yes, thats
right the 1979-80 vintage Smith & Wesson model 60 and
the NAA 1-1/8" barrel .22 "mini magnum" accompany me
everyday! As for the other's, they are secured within my
home; under lock and key.

Best Wishes,

When I lived in the states my guns followed me to work everyday, and stayed in a locked locker behind my desk. I ran the firign range there, so they got a lot of use while I had down time.

Now that I am in Germany, my guns are loced up tight in the states. I sure do miss them, and can't wait until they can follow me to work again.

All but one are locked tightly away in the safe. The one that isn't is secured in a different way. And there is an ill-tempered 95 lb. Black Labrador that someone wold have to get past first. (After they by passed the security system)
