Ala Dan March 26, 2003, 04:59 AM All current production Smith & Wesson 629 "Classic's" are of the round-butt configuration. But, they come standard with Hogue finger grooved "MonoGrip's" that make 'em feel semi square-butted! Best Wishes, Ala Dan, N.R.A. Life Member QuarterBoreGunner March 26, 2003, 07:29 PM Give that gentleman a cigar! You are correct Sir! Smith & Wesson stopped making square butts in 1992 IIRC; except for the odd semi-custom performance center run. Once upon a time, gunsmiths had a pretty regular business converting square butt S&Ws to round butt. It was a pretty popular conversion. So S&W decided to just go ahead and stop making square butts, but you could always use a Hogue grip to get a square butt feel.
