Danger Near, Folks

"Danger Near" was codespeak in the Vietnam air war for: "We're about to die, so discard all the usual rules and do everything you can to help us." I've dropped MK82s 50 meters from Marines under those circumstances, and yes, we had friendly casualties as a result. You do what you can.

Right now, our troops are within the operational envelope of mortar-delivered chemical weapons. Even with Saddam's worthless *** out of action and "Chemical Ali" neutralized, there are Iraqi small units trained and equipped with chemical weapons, and, presumably, residual instructions to use them. And, possibly, with Saddams/Usay/Quday's SS troops with a gun to their head.

Our Marines and Troopers are trained and equipped to go to MOPP-4 and continue the fight, but I can only imagine the fury of our reaction if the Fedayeen Saddam force the Republican Guard to actually employ the weapons they have. God help us. Our fury will be legendary.

I hope our Marines and U.S. Army and Brits are being very careful. Their blood is up, and they are tempted to "end it now." Take care, guys. We want you back.

Well the good news is that all the pictures of the Marines I see running around up north are in MOPP-3, hopefully they have remembered their training. Wish I was there. Heads down, Guns up! Good luck guys.

Trying, with my civilian mind, to comprehend being a soldier in such deep **** that I'm happy to see my buddies drop a bomb 50 meters away.

Trying harder to comprehend wanting to be there. Not saying I wouldn't fight for my country, just that I think I'd rather be safely here in rural America than over there fighting.
