Saw one of these for sale. Lets you shoot 45acp ammo from a 12g shotgun. Looks like a shell that you slip the 45acp round into. Having never seen or heard of such a thing before, I'd like to know more about it. What would you use it for ?

45acp from a 12 gauge shotgun? :scrutiny:

I would expect really poor performance and possible a messed up shotgun.

it's safe as long as you use a good adaptor.

The adaptors from Diana Arms (E-gunparts.com has them) are made from aluminum, and while nicely made don't impress me very much with their staying ability. The .22 adaptor I picked up fits nicely into my Winchester 1300 20g, and firing .22 CB long it is surprisingly accurate. A bit of practice and I can consistently shatter clays on an embankment from 30 feet, and sometimes hit a 20oz plastic bottle at 40-50 feet. The main limitation is the aiming ability with a hi-viz fiber optic sight system rather than ghost sights, which would be better for slugs; which this device would be the best training system for, barring firing actual slug shells.

Unfortunately, as I mentioned, the item is not particularly sturdy. The rifling has already begun to wear down, with only 100 or so rounds through. Not surprising, but still disappointing.

Wouldn’t the remaining 20 or so inches of the shotgun barrel act as a silencer????
