Also, I work in a hospital. Sunday night paramedics brought in a 21 year old mother with a gunshot wound to the left lower abdomen. The paramedic said the gun was a 7.62x39 rifle. When the mother was asked what kind of gun she replied
"AKS rifle". So I dont know if it was an AK or SKS. Hear is the sad part. She was laying in bed when her 2 1/2 year old child shot her.She stated the rifle was supposed to be locked whatever that means.
Yes you read that right, her 2.5 year old child! Ridiculous!
:banghead:
This incident will probably be in tommorow's paper. If so I will post the link.

The first story looks to be Lufkin, TX.

Yes the child shooter was 2 years old.Believe me I was wondering how it happened also. My theory was that the rifle must have been laying on the mothers bed when it fired as I could not see how a 2 year old could actually pick up a rifle and fire it. It turns out it was laying on the uncles bed in the next room. The bullet passed through a wall before striking the mother above the left hip. The entrance wound was a typical .30 caliber entrance wound. The exit was about 1 1/2 inches long and 3/4 inch wide in the shape of a cats eye because it exited at angle on the side of her back, in other words an oval with pointed ends. The paremedic said it was hollow point bullets. I suspect Wolf 123 grain hollow points because that is what the local gun stores around here sell. It happened in Diboll, Tx a town of about 3,000, eight miles south of Lufkin in East Texas.

Now the news says they used a .308 ammunition "clip", their words not mine. So maybe the rifle was an AR15 or something other than an AK. Of course every time a semi-auto rifle is used in a crime the stupid media is going to report that it was an "Evil AK47 Assault rifle" even if it was a .22. The article states these people were from the Rivercrest area which doesn't surprise me, because most of the people down there are inbred dope addicts. The shooting happened in Huntington which is an area notorious for Methamphetemines, I am sure their reason for being their had to do with Meth.

Just a matter of semantics here...

The first thing you described wasn't a "gun crime." It was merely a crime, in which a firearm happened to be used. If the youts had attempted to run someone over with an Escallade, would people leap to call it a Cadillac crime? "Gun crime" is a media-created phrase.

As for the toddler - I doubt it. Easy for boyfriend (who may be on parole or something, and may be forbidden from handling firerams...) to blame the toddler. "It just went off!" Yeah, right...

Bogie, I did not state anywhere that the first incident was a "gun crime"or a crime committed by a gun. I realize that a gun is an inanimate object that is incapable of commiting a crime.Your post makes it sound like I stated the Gun was being charged with capital murder instead of the 3 low life criminals.Maybe I should have chosen a better word than incident. I guess this is what got you confused.

I also realize that it is hard to beleive that a 2 year boy shot his mother with a rifle. It was hard for me to believe also.
At this point all indications are that it was the 2 year old that fired the rifle. Since the rifle supposedly laying on the bed in the next room I can see how this is possible that the kid pulled the trigger while playing around on the bed . After examining the wound path and considering the alleged shooter was a 2 year old I theorized the rifle had to be laying on the bed. Well it turns out that was true, only it was the bed in the next room.

Okay. "Gun incidents."

Same general thing.

If someone had run over someone, would you call it a "SUV incident?"

Okay, Bogie I get your point. I should have chosen a better title. :o
I agree with you 100% on the "gun crime thing". I"ve never heard of baseball bat crime, knife crime, fist crime, or even an SUV incident. :D I have even made that argument before myself. I certainly did not intend to imply anything like that. Thanks for taking the time to clarify.
Next time I will be more specific.

P.S. You win I edited the title.

No shortage of people in that town who are completely ignorant of firearms. The child—if that's what actually happened—has an excuse.
