Can someone in Kansas who is over 18 but under 21 use a handgun if they are with someone who is over 21?

Specifically, if I want to go to an indoor range and bring a friend along who is 20 (I'm over 21), would we both be able to shoot handguns there?

Thanks for any responses.

Not only can you use it but you can own it. You just can't buy it. If your mom gives it to you for a birthday present it's a legal AFAIK. IANAL.

Smersh, I use the indoor ranges here in Wichita and have done so, alone, since I was 19. For the range I use, if you are over 18, you can sign a 'safety release form', its basically a sheet of paper with a whole lot of legal speak saying, 'whatever happens, it ain't the ranges fault.' I mention this because of this (http://http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=122843) thread...

My usage of the range has included bringing my own handgun (technically my father's, but its mine anytime I wish to use it... ), renting any of the variety that are available and even borrowing from the range staff on occasions (one was for sale the other had offered to let me try his SIG). The indoor range will sell pistol ammo to those under 21, but it has to be used at the range.

My best friend (who falls within your age bracket) sometimes goes to the range with me. She wanted to try the CZ85 rental I had been ranting and raving about.

As far as public ranges, I've never had an issue with using handguns alone or with my best friend. For us, the nearest public range is Cheney Lake and there is always a Ranger or Wildlife and Parks Officer there. He knows our age and has never said a thing. Maybe it's because we're safe, clean up after our selves and do our best not to be a nuisance. ;)

BTW, tomorrow is my 21st B-day... :D
