Took my Century metric and my Bushmaster Shorty AK for a spin yesterday, and had a pretty good time, considering I was supposed to be at work. :D The Bushy is stock, and the FAL sports Penguin furniture and a Simmons 4x32 scope on a DSA mount:

These are all 100 yard groups, with Hirtenberger for the FAL, and Winchester white-box 55 gr ball for the Bushy. I shot from the bench off a roll of carpet with a sling(carry strap) hold. The DSA mount retained zero after being removed and replaced.

FAL with irons (4 shots) 1.65" :

FAL scoped (with an errant .223 hole) 0.85" :

These were shot from the bench, with a sling(carry strap) hold, rested on a roll of carpet. I'm pretty pleased. I know they're (mostly) just 3 shot groups, but they were early in the day when I was fiddling with the zero, and anyway I like 'em, so there! :D

I guess the pitted bore in the Century hasn't hurt the accuracy potential much. Too bad...it was a great excuse for lousy shooting. :p

I noticed a lot of carbon build-up on the AK brake, and when I got home to scrape it off, it wouldn't. It's gas cutting: :what:

Seems like a lot of wear for a gun that only has about 1000 rounds through it. I rarely do any rapid fire, and I try to keep the barrel cool (usually). I wonder what the throat looks like... :scrutiny:

Well, hey... those are very respectable groups from an FAL, anyway!

What kinda sling is that on your FAL? I like it...

I can't recall exactly, but I bought it at WalMart some years ago for about fifteen bucks for my shotgun. It's nylon, with some kind of arrangement for quickly adjusting the length, and it had QD swivel attachments.

I rescued it from my "miscellaneous gun junk" box, disassembled it (doing away with the quick adjust feature and QD swivels), and re-positioned the Chicago screws to fit the strap over the buttstock. A red-hot nail melted new holes in the strap and cauterized them so they wouldn't fray.

I forgot to buy a rear sling swivel for the Penguin stock when I ordered, so I had get all clever and stuff...

My Frankenfal is a CAI build too, very very accurate. With Federal Match I've eaked out a couple sub-MOA groups...tho 1.25" is the norm. Mine had all Aussie parts except for the receiver and a new Lithgow barrel. I sure like to rub it in my buddy's face as he gave me heck for not getting a DSA like his, and his is lucky to punch a 3" hole at 100 yards.

Here's my mutt:
