This is a sad day for my Super RedHawk 454.

My Super RedHawk has been made to step down from it’s position as the most powerful handgun in my collection.

I finally picked up a S&W 500 Magnum.

This thing is Gigantic!!!

I’m no stranger to heavy recoil as I have been shooting my SRH 454 and DE 50ae for years but I must admit that I’m a little intimidated about shooting the 500 for the first time, I can wait to shoot it though.

I’ll be sure to let you guys know how it does and maybe take some comparison photos of it next to the Desert Eagle, SRH and 629.

I bet the SRH will still see more frequent use. I love mine. I will pick up a .500 sooner or later, now that there is a 6.5" version (or is it 6"?).

Your new 500 may be more powerful on paper, but your 454 Casull has taken every game animal on this planet including African elephant. It also outpenetrated the 500 in John Linebaugh's penetration seminar. 454 Casull handoaders have been duplicating factory 500 external ballistics for quite some time now (454 Casull factory ammo is quite downloaded from maximum). The 454 Casull is still king of the revolvers in Africa.

I know what you're thinking: "Did he fire six shots, or only five?" Well, to tell you the truth in all this excitement, I've kinda lost track myself. But, being this is a S&W 500 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya punk? :D

Heh. Doesn't work in this case. The Smith 500's are 5 rounders.

You've rounded out your S&W collection very nicely.
How 'bout converting your Ruger SRH into an 'ALASKAN'...? :)

I've fired a friend's 500, the recoil really isn't all that bad.

When I shot a buddies 500 I found it more of a BIG push than a kick.

In my opinion the 454 kicks harder, but the 500 shoves you around more.

I agree with Ben Shepherd.

When I shot a .454 side by side with a .500mag I thought the .454 was much harsher recoiling.

Its kind of like comparing .40 S&W to .45acp (only on a greater order of magnitude).

I gotta admit, the shorty .500 is cool. I'd like to give one a spin. With Cor-Bon's .500 Special, if you please.

The carry load! ;)

BTW, don't the SRH .454 and the 8 3/8" .500 Mag pictured above look good together? You could hardly ask for a neater contrast of Ruger vs. S&W aesthetics. Oh yeah, and then there's that autoloader thingy  (no offense).

Gixer - when (if) I get my 460 (the 500 has never called me) - I will still love and coset the .454 SRH. Love it too much to retire it.

Indeed, the ultra high pressure of hot .454's does IMO make it among the most brutal for recoil.

Even my pretty warm loads in BFR with 45-70 are I'll bet not too far off a 500 - tho a softer type recoil.

Whatever - enjoy the livin heck outa that behemoth :D
