Investigators charge 2 with home invasion

By Chris Paschenko

DAILY Staff Writer

Gunfire from a would-be victim sent three armed men fleeing for an exit, police said, bumping into each other like The Three Stooges after they allegedly tried to burglarize a Decatur woman's home.

Investigators captured two suspects Thursday, charging Bernard Obrian Driskell, 19, and Tavarius Learon Gladney, 17, with the March 9 home invasion.

Decatur investigator Jeremy Hayes said Thursday that Driskell, Gladney and a third man were armed when they kicked in the door at Tinisha Octavia Allen's 407 14th Ave. N.W. home about 11 p.m.

"Allen was in her living room," Hayes said. "She grabbed her pistol and shot Driskell twice in his chest. They were bumping into each other like Larry, Moe and Curly trying to get out of her house."

Hayes said Driskell went to Decatur General Hospital for treatment. Hospital officials alerted police.

Driskell refused to cooperate with authorities, Hayes said, telling investigators someone shot him from a car while he walked in the 1600 block of Danville Road Southwest.

Investigators linked Gladney and Driskell to the home invasion and captured both Thursday.

Foot pursuit

"Officer Brian Solomon spotted Gladney at the West Moulton Mini Mart at 11:30 a.m.," Hayes said. "After about a 1-block foot pursuit, Lt. Barry Hamilton and Investigator Herb Lundy caught him."

Gladney was armed with a handgun, Hayes said, but Hamilton and Lundy took him into custody without incident.

Investigators also captured Driskell on Thursday afternoon at a residence on Sunset Drive Northwest.

Gladney, of 204 Seventh Ave. N.W., and Driskell, of 114 Seventh Ave. N.W., remained at the Morgan County Jail on bonds of $50,000 and $30,000, respectively.

Gladney faces a bond revocation hearing for five previous counts of first-degree robbery, Hayes said.

The third suspect remained at large Thursday. Further arrests are pending, Hayes said.

She needed a bigger gun!

Maybe not- she was obviously comfortable enough with the one she had to put two rounds into the BG. Sometimes that "stinging" sensation is enough to get their attention

Thanks, Ma'am! The nation is a little safer today.

Why did they feel it was necessary to print her address? Now every hood in town who can read will know there is a gun in her house. Also, they will know which house it was, takes all the guess work out of it.

This would be a much better conversation.

BG1 "So which house was it where the guy got shot the other night?"
BG2 "I'm not sure, maybe we should stay home tonight."

2 shots in the guys chest and they found him alive in a house? Must have been a----- , no I won't go there.

Good work, Ma'am, thank you.

This proves the danger of the media. The crooks must have seen the Three Stooges and never having practiced emergency evacuation procedures or withdrawl under fire, they responded as they were taught by the Stooges.

I don't mean to sound like a smart aleck but when I read the thread title I thought it was going to be about another no-knock warrant gone bad. After I read a little bit I realized that if it were about one of those situations there would have been more than three home invaders and it would have been the householder who got shot. Nowadays it's hard to tell the good guys from the bad guys.

I'm glad that lady's alright. Now, somebody teach her how to do a failture to stop drill.
