Took a new shooter out

Took my wife and a friend of ours shooting Thursday evening.

My wife has shot before but the other woman had never fired a gun before. For those of you in Oregon, we went up to the dump.

Started the new shooter out with my Ruger 22/45, taught her the basics and she did pretty good. Then we went to the Makarov and she did better.

Then I got out my 2" EAA Windicator and she fired several .38 special. I told her the Windicator could fire .357 Magnum, and that it was a much more powerful round. I asked if she wanted to try it and she said, "ssssure".

I have to give her credit, she made it through 2 cylinders full before she started shaking her hand. It was kinda funny to watch, after every shot with the .357 she took a step backwards. I told her that wasn't required and she laughed.

Then I got out my CCW, a Ruger P90. Both women thought they should be familiar with it. The new shooter stays at our house about 4 nights a week and she thought she should learn how to shoot it, I tend to be a heavy sleeper and they don't think they can count on me, lol.

Both of the women shot the P90 the best of all the handguns. They both said it is too big and heavy for them to consider carrying but they like it. The new shooter's favorite is the Makarov. I thought it would be, they are pretty sweet shooting little guns.

Both of them are thinking of getting a CHL and the new shooter is looking for clubs to join. She is in a beginning handgun class today. I think she's hooked.

The reason we went out Thursday is she was signed up for the class today and thought that perhaps she should actually fire a gun, at least once, before hand, lol.

A good time was had by all.

Good for you! IMHO that's exactly how an introduction should be done.

I hear alot of good stuff about Maks...do you think I need one to go with my CZ52?

Good for you!

It's always fun to introduce people to shooting. I generally have more fun than they do. :)

Not yet, but after we shot paper for a while, I had the new one chase some cans around. She really enjoyed that and did surprisingly good.

I don't know, next time I get down to the Bay Area, my daughter lives in Fremont, I,ll bring it along and you can try it out, if you have a place we can shoot. I've never tried a CZ52, I'd like to.

Good on you and good for them.

It is alway to our combined benefit when one of us gets a new shooter on the scene. Either for sport or protection. (or both) :D

Do just about anything to get a newbie onto the range. Even if they don't take it up themselves, anything we can do to put a good spin on shooting helps.

Great way to start. Now buy her an NRA membership with a subscription to "Woman's Outlook" to keep the enthusiasm growing.
