Something to mimic Barami Hip Grip?

I have a S&W 637 with a pair of Ahrends grips that I love. I'd like to keep those grips, but I'd like to have the functionality of the Barami hip grip.

Does anyone offer a "bolt on" attachment that could work with my grips? I'm aware of the clip draw, but I don't like it. It attaches too far forward in my opinion. I was thinking of something like a thin piece of metal that could bolt on under my grip panel with an ear protruding above the top of the grip.

Any ideas? Maybe I can make one myself.

Check out the clipdraw again. I ran across a discussion of it on some other forum and I remember that there is a "universal" model that attaches with some kind of adhesive. The posters seemed to like it and had definite preferences on where to place the clipdraw on their own pistols/revolvers.

I've carried both the Clipdraw and the Barami. For carrying I prefer the Barami. It carries the gun lower and the gun doesn't tend to ride up. The Clipdraw carries the gun higher and for me the gun tends to ride up and out. The advantage of the Clipdraw is as you've pointed out, you can still use your favorite grips. So it's a trade off.

isp2605, I agree with you about how the Barami "rides" as opposed to the clipdraw. I know I could get the universal clipdraw and move it way back, but I just don't trust the adhesives, regardless of the picture of the guy holding up the 25 lb weight with one. I'm afraid sweat would make it loosen.

I'm seriously considering making my own out of sheet metal, but everything I can thing of would require that I cut recesses in the grips.

I have a 637 with Barami's and Tyler adapter and love it.

I do prefer wood grips though, and have considered the
"Lip Grip" from CollinsCraft. You might want to check it out.

I actually found a link to the Collins site while I was searching the forum earlier. I like the wood grips, but I didn't see any that were finger grooved. Maybe I'll give them and the T-grip a shot.

One of these and a Tyler T-Grip should fix you up, given that you like finger grooves. I personally don't care for 'em, and so am on the scout for old Pachmayr grip adaptors, made of plastic or hard rubber.

I carried my model 37 for several years with a Barami Hip Grip and Pachmayr adaptor. It stayed in an ankle holster much of the time but it was very handy to be able to carry it IWB under a shirt when the mood struck me. ;)
