Thanks

This is the first time I can remember ever seeing the proper caliber designation.

The Russian 'target' ammo runs around $15/40 - and runs ~590fps from my Nagants. It requires the Nagant's SA-style ejector rod for spent case extraction. Fiocchi also loads a Nagant round, although it is a bit pricey at $35-$50/50 and chrono-ed at ~675fps. It, too, requires the SA ejector rod for extraction. The case mouths are thin on both styles, making reloading very difficult - even if you could, the Russian version has the wrong primer.

I believe Hornady has announced their own loading as 'coming', and Starline has released their own, albeit short, cases. My 'rounds' are homebrew, involving modified .32-20 cases sized by an M1 sizer and loaded with .311" (.32 S&WL/H&RM) bullets, ranging from 700-820 fps, and, when spent, most will fall out easily. My rounds are 'too short' for proper gas-sealing, so some 'b/c' gap expectorant can be found. I have tried the .32 S&WL and H&R Magnum loads others use and found them unsafe, experiencing lots of spitting and every case bulged - some even split.... no thank you!

a rim *and* a shoulder, and it still needs an ejector rod?

We manufacture it as well. WWW.REEDSAMMO.COM

It's not that the case needs an ejector rod, just that that's what's provided on the Nagent revolver. It loads through a gate, single action style, even though it is a double action. The design dates from 1895 or there abouts.

Yes, the 1895 Nagants, used with proper 7.62x38r ammo, will require a SA-style extractor - an ejector rod. This is not due to the small rim...

The 'proper' ammo, even the mild target rounds and the Fiocchi ammo as well, actually extends into the barrel when fired (The chamber has no shoulder/rim stop.). This oddity makes the Nagant a gas-sealed revolver, capable (and, actually used) as a silenced weapon. The thin rim expands slightly upon discharge, requiring a rod to push them through the then too-small chamber exits. Once within the tapered chamber, they will fall out. Of course, the too-small cased .32 S&WL/H&R Magnums will expand and require 'help' too. Of course, in the heat of battle, that seventh round was probably appreciated, as they aren't rapidly reloaded.

I have seen a picture of one with a bayonet, too. Odd, but neat, little piece of Victorian engineering. Join us at Gunboards Nagant forum for loads of more info.

Now that I stop to think of it, the Nagent's fore and aft moving cylinder action would make top break or swing out cylinder loading rather complicated. That's probably why it loads single action style.

Aim Surplus has the Fiocchi stuff. I had a Nagant for a while, the Double action trigger pull would give you a hernia, but on SA the little beast was a surprisingly sweet shooter. The Russkies even used them as target pistols.

Save yourself some money and try a box or two of 32 Long-Colts or even 32Mags.
I shoot my Naggant using these and have yet to have a problem

To celebrate a business deal, whose profit will let me layaway a S&W 27, I picked up a copy of Guns&Ammo: COMBAT ARMS. Lots of real interesting articles. Things such as the AA-12, the Chink 5.8mm, the ACOG and even an article on the RPG.

There was also an article on Wolf ammo. It gave a history of the plant and the Brand, it also talked about their expanding lineup of ammo. And I quote,

"For all of you who bought one of those pristine Russian 1895 Nagant revolvers but have been stuck with no ammo, help is on the way. Wolf's Gold line will include 7.62mm Nagant revolver shortly."

'Nuff said.

Racist? Get a grip, guy! How 'bout us Yanks? How about the widely used term of the Japanese Arisaka's in 7.7Jap?

How about us asking the mods to delete your comments as off topic for the thread?

I would suggest that you talk with some Chinese people and ask them what they think about the use of "chink". It's equivilent to using the "N" word.

The word "chink" has started at least 50% of the fistfights I've been engaged in thus far...

From Dictionary.com:

Chink
n. Offensive Slang

-Used as a disparaging term for person of Chinese birth or descent.

FYI, Japanese people don't like Jap either.

Anyway, http://www.ammoman.com carries the Fiocchi brand.

Deleted this post by my own merit. My response was not in line with THR policies. I will not be participating in this thread, as apparently I'm not liberal and PC enough.

You can think what you want, but don't be surprised if someone hands you your ass one day for using that word.
