I'm thinking of buying a Norinco SKS. Where should I go to download a manual, cleaning guide, etc.?

I've bought and/or owned several SKS rifles.

I've got one in the safe right now.

I have never owned a manual.

SKS rifles are pretty simple to figure out.

Remember, they were designed so that not even peasant conscripts in a communist army could break them.

I say get the SKS, and then look for a manual.

Here's one on the Internet, if you are really, really determined.

Surplus rifle has a good section on SKSes (SKS's? SKii? :) ) http://www.surplusrifle.com/sks/operations.asp.

guns.ru (one of the best sites out there by the way for any military gun stuff) has section on the SKS with a link to the US army instruction manual for SKS rifles: http://world.guns.ru/rifle/rfl01-e.htm

It's not THR but I have found some good information poking around on this board (http://www.sksboards.com/forum/index.php). Also at surplus rifle dot com (http://www.surplusrifle.com/) as mentioned above.

"I'm thinking of buying a Norinco SKS."

Whats to think about? If you don't already have a SKS, it is high time you get one! :D I think everyone should have at least one SKS in the collection. A basic rifle collection should include a SKS, AK, AR and some sort of .22lr. Those are the guns that everyone should have at least example of.

If you want to continue it on to other guns, get a good 12ga pump like a Rem 870, a 4" .357 mag, a 1911, a .22lr pistol and a 9mm of some sort. Without at least all those guns, you will always feel an empty spot in your life. :D

Seriously though, once you have field stripped and taken the stock off one a few times, it is pretty easy but a manual will save you some time. I have had many SKSs but never even seen a manual. There are places online that are better than a manual for the info you need. They have pics and detailed instructions that the manual won't.

Well, for one still dripping in cosmo (yuck), is $165 a good deal OTD?

Yup that's a good deal. You found a Norinco in cosmo or did you end up with a Yugo?

There's a pile of Norinco SKSs packed in cosmo, varying from $150-$165 OTD.

Where?
Who?
Is this guy who has this pile of Norincos willing to ship to an FFL?
I am thinking about selling my AK to finance a FAL but I want to get an SKS so I have something to use the ammo I already have.
Thanks.

What about just a standard Chinese one (not marked Norinco) for $135 OTD, missing the bayonet?

I've seen a manual. There's two that I've seen. First, the U.S. Army had one out so that soldiers who came across the SKS in Vietnam could figure out the weapon. The other one was in Russian.

If anyone's looking for an SKS, I have two Russkies and a chi-com I'd part with cheap. Have some other stuff as well.

Third Rail, depending on condition, I would take that $135 SKS and run. Who needs a bayonet anyhow? Do you know if this source would be willing to ship?

.45Guy - I am interested. My gun collection is in a period of transition. I am trying to make it into exactly what I need and an SKS would fit in. I am thinking of selling the AK but I have some ammo and I have always shot the SKS better anyhow. I don't need any strippers or accessories but I am interested. Please PM me with some details on the SKS's you have.
Thanks.
