Am I dim, or just bored

Maybe it's due to the fact that I've spent 16 years packing a 5 shot snubby around, but I prefer the balance, feel or whatever of the 5shot cylinder. So why not a nice .357 5 shot with a 6 inch barrel? I mean, honestly, do you really need that sixth shot? Maybe I need to get out more often.

Just my opinion based on MY lifes experiances;

A 5 shot 6" revolver is worthless to me. Actually I have no use for any of the big bore 5 shot revolvers made by Tarus or S&W.
The old S&W Chief filled a nitch, it still does. But anything bigger should be a six shot.

I find myself dumfounded by all the requests for a 5 shot this, and a 5 shot that.
Some of them I can understand, like the Linebaugh monster calibers.
But in a normal gun why, why, why, limit yourself to five rounds?

I WILL have my SIX, thank you.

I'm with you. For a fun gun what difference if it has 5 or 6 shots. I think that a 5 shot with a 3 or 4 inch barrel would be way cool. Let's I can get a model 10 barrel fairly cheap. Then all I need is a model 36 to attach it to. Hmmm. Sounds like fun.

I'd just like it to be a 4" 696 in .44 Special.:D

I'd love a 6-shot .45ACP revolver....all these dang 5-shot things aren't so hot for IDPA ;-)

I really like the 5 shot mod 60 I've got. Serves me very well. 5 shots ae okay, but in the larger frames, you might as well have more rounds since you're carrying more gun anyway.

Dittos on that 696. I'll have to wait to find a used one here, or move and then get one. Luckily there are M24/624's available. But someday.......

No, you don't need the sixth shot. But where are you going to find a 5 shot .357 with a 6" barrel (IE: my 80's vintage 6" Charter Bulldog .357 - originally aquired in the OKC area)?

Now why didn't I think of that. Gonna have to pencil that one onto my wish list. Dang this list is getting long. I just prefer the feel of a muzzle heavy revolver, and I figure a 5 shot would improve the balance even more. Besides, all of my speed loaders are for 5 shots, and it would just be silly to buy new speed loaders.

I've got a Charter Arms Target Bulldog in .357 Magnum. When it was new it was the most accurate revolver I've ever owned. Today it rattles (it's about twenty years old or more). They shoot loose fairly fast. I haven't shot mine in fifteen years or more. If you put a serious amount of ammo through them you won't be happy. If you don't shoot it much, you'll like it.

I had a 696 and sold it.
Stupid, stupid, stupid :banghead:

If you like it, then get it. Who cares what others think.

FWIW, I want another 696.

For my Summer carry - I'll put up with the 5 shot cyl in my M85 .... if it was capacity six it'd be that much fatter and thus harder to conceal.

Five will do ...... and two speedloaders make that a tad more versatile too. But if 5 ain't cuttin it ... daresay I'd not be in too good a shape anyways!:p

Enter the Ruger SP-101 in .357 magnum. 2&1/2" to 6" barrel. Shown here with a 3&1/16" barrel as the one I own has. (I got the same grips too :D)

Do you really need that sixth shot?

You will when you need it and don't have it.

Thats whay lots of people choose auto loaders for carry.
And why I prefer a P14 for carry.

I like as many rounds as I can get Revolver or auto.

I'd really like a 3 inch .357 SP101 with adjustable sights.

I'd like a S&W Bodyguard with a 3" full shroud bbl. and adjustable sights.

I had a Ruger SP-101 and gave it to my best friend for his birthday a few years ago.
I liked the gun, but all my revolvers (except my Charter Arms Undercover, my FIRST gun) had 6-shots.
I traded off a couple of rifles for a Ruger Security-Six snubnose and got my 6-shot shorty to replace the 5-shot.

My buddy is glad to have that SP-101, and I'm happy with the Security-Six!
( For smaller size and more shots, I've got the Beretta 84F ).

I've got a 5-shot 6" .44 spl. Got it brand-new outta SGN for $189. Fees and markup had it out-the-door for under $250. I guess they didn't sell to well, so Taurus discontinued 'em and sold off the excess cheap. I think I got a prize.

That said, I too have a use for a small-frame gun with a long barrel. I saw a break-top Iver johnson in .38 S$W with a 5" or 6" barrel once that I thought was slicker 'n batsnot, but it wasn't for sale.

I think of guns like this as boot guns, and a .357 would make a dandy trail gun.

I have a secret dream to convert a Ruger SP-101 to .30 carbine with a barrel 6"-8" long.

The username says it all. ;)
