hello!

...anyone care to advise a slightly inept amateur female on why the tube in the buttstock of a match grade colt postban ar15 stock lower is not threaded and why i can't get it off/out to change stocks? :banghead: it shows no evidence of any spot welding or glue, and frankly, i need to get it off to change my stock to one that will fit me.

any advice will be read except "sell it to me", LOL.

thanks,
vasilia

Not threaded? Colt did some pretty strange things now and then, but are you sure it's not just stuck? Try a little penetrating oil (like PB Blaster from Walmart) and let it sit muzzle down for a day or so to soak in good.

This page here explains how the stock goes together and even has an ok diagram (near the bottom):

Also, if you just want a shorter stock, you can leave the tube on (without the spacer at the end) and get a Calvary Arms C1 stock which is a bit shorter.

DMK:

thanks, will try the lube & read up at the site you mentioned.

will post a pic of my newest addition when i get the stock changed. i'm quite pleased with it as is, but i want to modify it so it fits me perfectly. after shooting at a beginner's status for a while, i am realizing that i blindly took another person's preferences as gospel - i tried a few different arms that were smaller/lighter & i finally got much, MUCH better groups with a slightly shorter stock & a lighter trigger. (maybe the cheez-whiz thought i'd drop out & sell all my stuff to him when i could'nt hit da target as pretty as he does?  )
