Why I enjoy shooting guns

Just now, I was talking to someone when she asked me how I could enjoy shooting guns. I think I went a little over-board with the cheesiness level, but I liked it, so I thought I'd share with you guys. What do you guys think? ANd please- share your excuses and let's try to make it all poetic and stuff. Fun times, fun times..

------------------
imagine- you're standing there, the air is thin and stale- you take a deep breath, pick up the metallic gun (notice how I didn't say polymer)- but you barely feel the weight because you're so tense. You slowly chamber a round and take careful aim. The air is silent and you don't hear anything else. The ear muffs are squeezing your head a little tightly- but you forget it all.
You slowly hold your breath and pull the trigger. Suddenly- a gigantic boom shakes you up as you feel the cold metal grip pushing up against your palm

You hear the metal shiver as the recoil dies away- and the pressure on your palm evaporates as the slide rams back home. A flaming hot brass casing pops out of the gun, flying through the air, but you don't have any time to focus on it.

Your palms feel numb and there is a quiet echo in the distance from the deafing blast and you slowly gather yourself together to see a small hole in the target that's standing a good twenty feet away- a small hole, but a hole neverthless. However, it's a good five inches from the center. You were gripping your pistol too tightly. You swear to yourself and take aim again, hoping you shoot better.

The feeling you get when you finally see that hole in the X-ring.
It's the greatest feeling in the world. In that moment, it's just you- the gun- and the target- yet, you have to be aware of everyone around you at the same time. If you flinch slightly because you're afraid of the gun slamming back against your hand- you will miss, so you take a deep breath, and get ready to fire again after a few hundred rounds, your palm is red, your arms are sore, and your ears are screaming. But when you look at the target with all the shots placed in the center, it's all worth it
------------
Ok, so I dressed it up a little, but she was impressed :D :neener: :p

I would have offered to take her shooting so she can find out for herself. I have done that before.

I enjoy shooting because:

1. I believe our civil rights, like intellectual abilities and muscles, need regular, frequent exercise.

2. Although any nitwit can fire a gun, it's exceedingly difficult to shoot one well and consistently.

3. Although I'm unlikely ever to need a gun, I'd rather be prepared for naught than not prepared.

Quite the illustration Yohan. Nicely done.

Makes me want to ditch out of work early tomorrow and go to the range. ;)
