I know it is iligal for Joe Citizen to have a handgun in our nations capital, but wh can go around armed. Obviously, Washington PD, FBI, ATF Secret Service and other federal officers. But could a Congressman, or Senator go around armed or would they have to have government agents that are armed with them?

the answer is no they couldn't on their own recognizance, however if you check a number of them have been sworn in as deputy federal marshals and thus are allowed to carry. I think this was more common under Regan but I have not heard it has been totally stopped.

So if those "ordinary citizens" have the privilege of being appointed deputy federal marshalls so they can carry in D.C., etc., why can't other citizens, especially if we're clean enough to get CHLs in any of the dozens of states that issue them? :neener:

Blackhawk- Because you and I are just lowly peons. After all, all animals are equal, but some are more equal than others.

Is carrying a gun in DC a misdemeanor or felony? I believe members of Congress have immunity to misdemeanor charges while Congress is in session.

Blackhawk: C'Mon man--back to basics. Repeat after Justin & me: "I am only a citizen. I am dependent on my government for happiness and protection." Fight the gag reflex and say that over and over. We'll get to the "Guns are Baaaad!" part in lesson II.

Is there any wonder why Mr. Smith doesn't want to go to Washington anymore?

Tallpine: well for one thing he'd get mugged. The only things that ever got me out of trouble in DC were:

1. God: I have no doubt He stepped in at least once when I'd stupidly left my piece in the glovebox of my car, and another time when (while driving) I turned the corner only to confront five cop cars with lights on and a cop motorcycle which had all forced an obvious gangmobile over onto the center median and EVERYONE was down behind their respective vehicle - I got out of there so fast you wouldn't believe it!

2. My NRA Logos: drug dealers and gangbangers may not know much, but they know what those three letters mean - and they respect it too.

3. My VA license plates - all MD license plates were considered possible liberal fools, but VA plates were considered red necks until proven otherwise...this solved several problems in advance...
