Is there a significant ballistic improvement with a .30-30 out of a 20 inch barrel versus a 16.5 inch barrel? Thanks.

No-but the longer sight radius will give slightly better practical accuracy. However, that being said I'm a sucker for a 16.5" lever gun.

I handled the sight radius by useing AO ghost ring sights. I love them both. The 16 in very handy, but the 20 seems to handle better for me. I say buy them both. I sould add that both of mine are Marlins.

If I remember correctly it was only about 100 fps. I prefer the 20" myself in 30/30. 16" is a blast in 357.

The 30-30 uses some pretty fast powders. I would imagine (note use of word 'imagine' to connotate that I've not measured this) that the difference would be somewhere around 100fps/125fps.

I am from the 395 chapter in Bishop. Are you a fellow protector of the Widers and Orfins?

Thanks all. It sounds like it is not a material difference.
