Need a Scope

I have a Smith 686 with a 6" bbl. I want a scope to put on it primarily for shooting paper. (think bad eyes=bad sight picture). With 6" bbl and another 2" of frame, (and few scopes that will fit) does anyone know of a scope that will fit within those 8", or does it matter? Nikon makes a great dot sight, but I would really rather have a magnification optic.
Any ideas?.

I have a variable power scope for sale in the Accessories section.

2-6x32 Bushnell, Trophy Pistol Scope with weaver rings. The scope is blued/black, not silver unfortunately. I had this scope on my 6" S&W model 586, the blued version of your 686. PM me if you are interested.
