I'm hopefully going to be in the market for a gun for my wife to carry. She really enjoys my AL framed Kimber Compact gun (officer's frame with 4" bbl) and shoots it well, but slowly. I'd like to get her a 9mm 1911 to lessen the recoil for her, in that configuration or maybe with the shorter officer's top end but they seem to be few and far between unless you want one built, get lucky and find one used, or can deal with a few oddities (STI's no lockback on last shot) or it being not the size/shape she likes.

The .40S&W 1911's seem to be a little more common in new production, but would it be more of a handfull than the standard .45ACP in the same size of gun? I had a Glock 22C (.40 & compensated bbl) that she hated, partially because of the gun and partially because of the more violent recoil of that round.

Are you saying the LS/BLS do not lock back?

I was certain they did.

Why not get a Colt Commander in 9mm?
