I need a gun for my wife. Thinking about an XD.

I like the XDs but do not have one yet. I am heading over to the great big sandbox in a few months and want a weapon that my wife can shoot easier than my full size autos.
Do any of our female members or guys with wives or GF had any problems handling an XD?
I am guessing not, but I just want to check.
Another possibility would be a Sig 226 turn in if I can find one. Any women shoot this?

My wife shoots my XD's without problems...however she has large hands, like me. It might not be the best choice for someone with really small hands.
The best way to find what she likes would be a trip to the range to shoot as many rental guns as possible to find what fits her best.

Again?
I hate these threads...
WHATEVER YOU WIFE WANTS! HAVE HER MAKE THE CHOICE!
IT'S HER LIFE, IT'S HER GUN, WHAT MATTERS IS WHAT SHE WANTS, NOT WHAT YOU WANT HER TO HAVE!

+1 to let her choose. But I'd suggest taking her to the range and let her try the best variety you can come up with.
Try to make it an open air out door range. I started my wife off in an outdoor covered range and the reflection of muzzle blast off the roof made her think 9mm recoiled a lot more than .380 (CZ 75 or Beretta 92 vs. Beratta 85 or CZ83). Once she shot in open air where the muzzle blast disapated she quickly decided the .380 was too "stingy"

It's not really FOR her. It is a gun of MINE that easier for her to shoot than my full size autos. She isn't into guns unless they are used for self defense. So going out and letting her pick a gun out is pointless. I would end up with a gun that I don't want.
I guess I should have been more specific in my original post. I apologize.

J&G Sales has used S&W Model 10s for $170-220.
I'd never recommned an auto for someone who'd not be serious about learning how to use it. Since you'll not be around, can she rack the slide? clear jams? load magazines? etc.?
My wife enjoys the CZ75 at the range, but likes the 38 Special revolver for when I'm out of town since she cannot rack the slide of any of my autoloaders (she is 5'2" 105lbs). CTC lasergrips give her a bit of extra confidence -- although they are close to impossibe to practice with in bright sunlight.

She knows how to use all my guns. I just want something that she can feel a little more comfortable with as far as size. Revolver is a good idea though. I hadn't thought about that.
For home defense I keep mine chamber empty/ Magazine inserted. It's hard to have that kind of safety in a revolver without leaving a speed loader next to it.

Rev. pick up, pull trigger, bang! BG goes by. A loaded Rev is safe. I keep my pistols loaded ready to go. If I am useing a DA/SA auto its ready loaded safety off. Long trigger same as rev. is safety. She might not have time to rack slide or use a speed loader. Also why can't she have a pistol of her own? You do. :D Even if she doesn't really like guns. Its for her protection so she should choose what she wants. Might also find you have a shooting partner before its over.

I pick out my own guns. I like to see how they feel in hand and check the trigger for smoothness. Picked up a Springfield XD 40 and it was a perfect fit. Have fired more than 3000 rounds from it and find it the most fun and accurate pistol I own and I am not pistol deprived! :p

I just had my wife and sister take a look at the XD9 Compac. They both said "thanks but no thanks". Well, actuall my wife said I had to be kidding. They have small hands and much prefer the fit, feel and (most of all) trigger pull of a 1911.
Oh, they used to carry Glocks but gave them up for 1911s. Neither wants the hastle of learning the long DA pull of a revolver.
Different strokes for different folks!
