I've moved the thread to the Rifle forum, where you're likely to get more answers, and also renamed it, so as to make it a bit more clear.

I don't know who actually put them together, but I believe they were Belgian-made Mauser actions mated with American-made barrels and stocks. Sears sold them as the JC Higgins Model 50 (or some such thing).

I didn't see them on the Numrich cross-reference page (http://e-gunparts.com/crossref.asp), but maybe someone has a better link.

They turn up on Gunbroker now and then:

These rifles can be hard to value. I've got something similar from Montgomery Wards that I'm trying to sell--a German-made Mauser in .30-06. I would've thought $300 would be a steal, but I can't find anyone local to do a FTF sale for even $275. Sigh.

That's an FN Mauser action, one of the best actions money can buy. Lots of shooters look for these guns today just to tear them down and use the action as the basis of a megabucks custom rifle.

FN Mauser action, High Standard barrel, Fajen or Bishop stock. Sold at Sears. I don't know who actually assembled them.
