they have aired Many shows on firearms, and even a series the History of the gun:)

The crazy D.I in Mail Call is none other then R. Lee Ermey(spelling??), who was an actual Marine Corps D.I.

He has also has starred or had parts in movies such as, On Deadly Ground, and The Seige of Firebase Gloria.

Thing is that several of the guns featured on that show -- we don't need. For example, the Colt Smart Gun....

If they are anti gun, they disguise it well.

The History Channel also has a sense of humor as a network. Recently they were airing promos for a "History Undercover" about a Nazi plan to bomb Manhattan during WWII.

The commercial said something to the effect:

"We've managed to find yet another secret Nazi plan."

Jumped the gun on this one a little. I don't think they're anti either. Did see that promo and paused when I heard that line, but they seem to walk the walk just fine. Think 280plus was probably joking about Ermey. Think it's a Navy/Marines thing. They buy each other a round after they bite each other's ears. Speaking of my wedding night...

"about a Nazi plan to bomb Manhattan during WWII."

Using a flying wing.

Solid design concept. It may have been able to make the flight.

THC is pretty fair on a number of topics (sex, guns, rock'n roll--the good stuff... ) If something does come out, it's usually isolated to a particular show.

I like "Mail Call" and Ermey, but sometimes he does get on my nerves. I'd be the first to shake his hand & buy him a beer, but I'd probably end up popping him in the schnoz when he got into his D.I. mode...:scrutiny:

280PLUS: If you want to tell him that to his "face", go to this link. He pops in from time to time...

This is my rifle & this is my gun... (http://www.rleeermey.net/mailcallforum)

They's media ho's like any other, their revenues comes from advertising, they ain't too picky. IMO, you're over reacting, but stay tuned and see if it's a trend . . . . :scrutiny:

Just because the History Channel presents something that has a different perspective does not make them anti-gun. It was a commercial for crying out loud! Barr, you have managed to classify the channel that has a long history of quality gun-related shows as being anti-gun based on a single commerical.

Sheesh, I don't know who is worse sometimes, the news media that I tend not to like or the people with whom I share some of the same pro gun views but don't seem to think any better than the news media when it comes to sensationalizing a controversial issue for the reason of gaining some sort of attention to the presented perspective.

Anybody else like "Conquest"?

With that kind of spooky English guy that was on the Babalyon 5/Crusade sequel show for a while?

Despite some dumber shows like the Demolition Derby one, they get very detailed in the ramifications and tactics of several kinds of weapons, like sword vs. battle-axe, vs. pikes, vs. archers vs. cavalry...

Then the crew of re-enactors actualy takes some rather serious swings at one another.

Very enligtening!

MailCall, Conquest are great!!!

Flying wing indeed. Germany built 2 papa's to the current B-2 in late '44. Both flew. One crashed during test flights and its sibling is sitting in a basement of the Air and Space Museum (or in some secret storehouse). In 1980 or there abouts, the folks working to design the B-2 got a peek at what the Horten brothers developed in the WWII.

The History Channel is just about the farthest thing from anti-gun on the tube. Of all the 'basic' mainstream cable and network channels, they are BY FAR the most fair re: weapons.

i was laughing my butt off at 'mail call' the other night (probably a rerun but first i'd seen that episode) where he spoofed mtv's Cribs.

The real nauseating thing was listening to that guy from colt whine about gun safety. Kept thinking about the poor LEO's that will be shackeled with these 'safe' guns.
As far as the History Channel I don't really think they are anti, but I have heard some stupid remarks from ol' Roger Mudd.

Watching "Conquest" has rekindled my interest in medeval weapons & fighting styles. :D

Anyone catch the episode on dueling? Very enlightening. Almost makes dueling worth bringing back (except for the dying part, that is...:what: )

Wonder how you can try out for that show...

got some blood moving I see. so, if there not anti, where did the statement come from? what does it mean? why did they say that? (and enough about R. Lee please.) I sure haven't seen a lot of Pro RKBA on that channel.

Yes. Owned by one of the big net works cbs I think. Here it goes again, We took all manner of cable out of the house when we realized who owned what and what they are pipeing pumping into our home. The real tragic part is I was paying them to be anti firearm etc,go figure how much they git money wise from us. 12 x 35 = ? Then x 500,000 or 1ooo ooo or 10 000 000 or what ever the coverage is . This is our money being used against us. 12months x 35$ or dollars for the spelling nazis ,ha some one used that term or one similar earlier. Thanks

If there's a more pro-gun channel I would like to find it. In addition to Tales of the Gun and Mail Call there are plenty of other good shows on THC. I probably wath that channel more than any other.

That would by 'GYRENE', evolved from how mama-sans combined 'G.I' and 'Marine' during the Corps' years in China.

More useless Marine Corps knowledge ;)

I see lots about guns from VPC and Sarah Brady too, what I DON'T see from THC is pro RKBA.

Every time guns are portrayed in an objective manner, such as how its done by THC, is pro RKBA. Eliminating the mystery and anti's carefully crafted threat of intimate objects only helps our cause.

and the voice over quote from my original message means????

all I'm saying is that they posted an anti gun message on the air. any other company. (Jeep for example) makes a comercial that is maybe a little anti (the hunting one) and fear and alarum!. a TV Network comes out and says "we don't need any more guns" and it's alright because R. Lee has a show on it...

never mind, I give up.

I didn't like the way the guy said something along the line of, 'we have to perfect this system before we sell them to LEOs.' Reading between the lines, 'we don't care about selling them to the general public, but LEOs are different.' They should be worried about the quality of the product REGARDLESS of who is paying for it.

The History Channel is one of the most pro gun channels out there. Its probably a better network than some of the hunting channels out there. (After watching what those guys call hunting, I could care less about the "sport".)

They air Tales of the Gun in prime time for $@%$@$#@ sake. One mistake does not mean you need to call a boycott and it does not imply a system wide change in their firearms policies. They have earned the right to screw up a few times thanks to their overwhelming support in other areas. Just make their mistake clear to them in supportive and friendly terms (I love your network but hate this advertizement) and move on.

From their web site:
Super Guns An examination of guns that exist on the cutting edge of firearm technology. Fighting battles on computers decades before an actual shot is fired, these super guns may make the world safer...or more dangerous than ever before.
Based on my experience watching THC, I would bet the show will take an objective view and tell both sides of the issue. I wouldn't like it any other way. Give me all the facts and let me draw my own conclusions.

That show remonded me of a conversation I had with a Police Officer in Pasadena,
they just used their new bean bag gun on a man trying to axe murder his family.
it worked quite well and allowed them to arrest the BG no problem.
I told the Officer that they used the wrong gun, he says "what do you mean by that"
I told him that the next time they go to that address, the family will be in chunks on the floor. they had every oppertunity to PERMENENTLY solve the problem but used a bean bag gun instead. he looked at me as if I was from Mars

The NRA sent me a video about the 10 guns that changed the world. It turns out the tape was made by the History Channel - and I had seen part of it before, on the History Channel.

I can hardly believe the History Channel is anti when they have entered into some sort of marketing partnership with the NRA.

Hmm. Last time I heard, Jeff Cooper's granddaughter Amy Heath was working for THC. Doubt she would associate with an anti entity.

At any rate, I appeared on a History Channel program last year (Modern Marvels) and anti-gun was the last thing the crew seemed to be. FWIW.

I agree with "hops". Mail Call and Conquest are great shows! R. Lee Ermey and Peter Woodward are perfect choices for the MCs of these shows.

"Hops" also mentioned the Horten Brothers' flying-wing aircraft...IIRC it was called the Ho 229.
