Handled a AO 1911 Today

Messed around with an Auto Ordanance/Thompson 1911 today. I don't know a great deal about 1911s, I'm no expert, but it looked like rust on the front sight, around the hammer, and around the firing pin. That bugged me. Then when I cocked the hammer back, there was a lot of slide to frame rattle. I could wiggle it back and forth with my hand. That bothered me too. The WWII Springfield beside it seemed a tigher gun though I did prefer the AO Blued Finish.

AO guns do have something of a reputation for being... not exactly the best.
Never handled one myself, so i cant say from experiance.

Key question is, was it a Kahr made AO or one of the older "Numrich" guns?
The pre-Kahr made ones are a crap shoot at best -- some are OK most aren't.

a little bit of rattle in a 1911 is not necessarily a bad thing ;)
