MONTPELIER, Vt. — A group of Vermont teen-agers threw rocks at a uniformed female Vermont National Guard sergeant last week, in the latest example of a service member facing hostility in the United States

National Guard spokesman Capt. Jeff Roosevelt said the woman was not injured in Friday's incident, which took place in Plainfield, but said the woman had decided she would no longer wear her uniform outside of work.

250.51 Insult to troops; penalty.--When troops of the organized militia of the state are at drill in their respective armories, on the streets, public roads or other places, where such drills are conducted or when they are performing other duties required of them by the state or the United States, it is unlawful for any person to make any disloyal or insulting remark either to or about said troops or to make any sign, motion, or gesture calculated to insult or humiliate said troops, and any person found guilty of making any such disloyal or insulting remark, or of making any such sign, motion, or gesture, for the purpose and in the manner as aforesaid, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor of the second degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082 or s. 775.083.

Not only could they be charged with any of the assault related charges, but in Florida they could charged with this nifty little piece of legislation!

The protestors claim that they "support the troops", but that's BS. Probably a number of them do, but amongst their ranks are lots of outright communists who do think all military personnel are "facists". Problem is these protestors get away with more and more (including some cities dropping charges against some protestors) and this emboldens them to do more and more. Well, once you've blocked the streets and smashed windows and gotten away with that, what's the next attention getter? I saw one protestor today quoted as saying they have to block the streets because no one is paying attention to their protests. Well, the First Amendment says they have the right to protest, but nothing about the right to demand people pay attention to them. But this is the "pay attention to me!!! look at me!!!" generation where cult of self is all-important. These are the screaming brats whose mothers bought them every toy they wanted when they screamed and threw fits. So, they have learned that when they don't get their way, just put on a display of ever-increasing tantrums until they get what they want. They didn't get the spankings they deserved as kids. But they should get the shellackings they richly deserve as adults!

Advocating the punishment of adolescents who throw stones at women doesn't seem inconsistent with the high road to me.
