I'm curious - How demanding of a shooter are you?

The actual size of the target is 22.5" X 24".
Say you take it and run it out to 7 yards.
What exactly would you shoot at on it?
Another way to ask, is how many targets do you see to shoot at?
One hand, two hand, off hand or rested, open sights or red dot, any caliber, any gun. Just say what and how.
There's no money riding on it or anything, it's just you pushing yourself to the limits.
I'm curious as to how others define their limits.

I guess I'm not very demanding of myself - I just like to be competent with my handguns.
I'd probably shoot at the A and the Q that align vertically near the center, and if those groups were pretty decent, I might try to blow out the 10's on the edges.
I'm mostly a two handed shooter, but I do spend at least 1 or two mags each trip shooting singlehanded - both strong and weak hand.
In a perfect world nobody would ever have to shoot single/weak hand, but the world sure ain't perfect.
edit to add: I mostly shoot a Ruger P97 .45

If my math was correct, each card is approximately 2"x3". At 7 yards, I'd probably try shooting each card, but would depend on how well I'm shooting that day and which gun I was shooting. All of my handguns have iron sights, and several don't shoot to POA, so I compensate (like my Colt Officers 45 ACP tends to shoot 4" high at 15 yrds, so I aim 4" low). I'd definitely use my Ruger MKII 22-cal for each card. Now, just because I say I'd try to shoot each card, doesn't mean I'll hit them, of course. :neener:
Oh yeah......I usually shoot two-handed and free-standing.

The cards are pretty large for a 7 yard target.
In any case I'd always aim for the number or letter trying for a one hole group, not that I'd get one that often. :D
I try to practice one hand, two hand or left hand.
Open sights with any gun that close to the target.

For me, it would depend on whether jokers are wild. . .

@ 7 yds., you don't have to "run it out," you can just bend over and "reach it out." :)

depends on the gun and ammo for me sometimes. I don't expect myself to shoot well with a NAA mini revolver or to shoot the best possible groups with bargain basement 22's and a fine target grade 22 pistol.

At 7 yds. one ragged hole with what ever handgun I'm firing.Preferably at the third button.tom.

Preferably at the third button

Hal - thread in the button hole on the third button.

Kramer,
2" X 3" - Sounds close enough for me. That's a pretty good sized area IMHO. Almost the same size as a regular playing card.
52 cards on the target = 52
The suit markers on the 4 corners = 208
Logo in the upper left and the head on the logo = 2
Logo in the lower center and the three lines = 4
I get 266.
267/270 if the target is stapled on a carbard backer, depending on the number of staples used.

OK, those of you who claim accurate shooting into 2" X 3" cards are making me feel inadequate again. :neener:
Nice job.
<Note to self: mentors advise more range time>
Since my handgun (currently a 9 mm; .357 being contemplated) is strickly close distance SD, right now, i am more concerned about 3 shots in 5 sec @ 4-5 yds, two of which are into a 6" region of a thorax, but at least one of which is a 'head shot", where "head" is 5" wide.
So, I'll take 4 contiguous cards in a 2X2 arrangement for $400, please, Alex.
<ding, ding, ding, ding> Oh, the daily double!

I'd be trying to centerpunch each card at 25 yards with a full-size pistol - and probably do better with one of the .45s than one of the 9mms. I said trying...somedays I end up hating the way I shoot handguns. :)
I could shoot the little numbers in the corners, or centerpunch all the 0's in the 10's, at 50 yards with some of my scoped .22 rifles and a rest.
Interesting target. Gotta get me some.

7 yard: Punch all the numbers with a 9mm, then the corners with a .22. 7 yards isn't even fun for me.
25 yards: have a compitition were a buddy says a number and times how long to hit all of them, then reverse and see who has the best time.
Note: need to find a new buddy who would actually give me a run for my money.

There are 52 targets on that sheet to be engaged bottom right to uper left in vertical rows, 2 shot per black target 2 shots per red.

Hal: As is clearly evidenced by a few posts in this thread, the very best groups are shot on keyboards. :D

At my local range, they had a competition one day, with the winner getting a new Kimber 1911. 5 shots at ten yards, best hand wins. The only difference was that the target was on a regular size piece of paper. It made it kind of hard that you couldn't see any of the cards.

So, I'd take a COM shot at each card. I don't do "target" work with handguns, so expecting more from me would be pointless. By target, I mean that I know folks who would pull out a tricked out scoped masterpiece and center punch the ace of spades offhand at 50 yards. Not me. At seven yards I could probably pick top, bottom, left or right of a card, but not knocking out the pips.

Me, I see the 52 cards plus the two silohettes(sp?) for a total of 54
Me & a couple shooting buddies used to shoot at this target... Also, we had to hit the center icon on the card for it to count as a hit...To make it interesting, call your shot too! That is a fun target :)
