80mm would be about the largest "practical".

Yeah, I've never seen an 80mm scope, but I'm sure they exist. If you really want a giant objective, just get extra high rings and see what the manufacturer recommends for scope size.

Keep the scope as close to bore centerline as possible...It is a tradeoff, do you need the extra brightness f a large Obj lens?? I have a 56MM Objective on my M1A, and it is BIG, hee hee

If you still have the stock rings, 40mm is the largest you'll be able to go. I had a MKII All-weather with a Bushnell Trophy 3x9x40mm and I had to cut-out the bottom of my butler creek cover just to get it to mount over the objective lens.
