I was making the dog toys jump about this evening with these two. The little guy is a 5.56 Meeper Al Para Fal and the one on the right is a more traditional FAL/L1A1. With milsurp 7.62 NATO as cheap as $125/1k and 5.56 at $120/1k I think I'll be making bang-SQUEEK noises all weekend. :D

I dearly hope its not the Indian stuff. That does VERY BAD things to good FALs from reports I've read.

Tsk, tsk. Such negative vibes. :D

Nope, not the Indian ammo.

A crazy company in South Carolina called Southern Ammo get's milsurp and resells it. A buddy and I ordered 6k of 7.62 NATO. It comes loose 1k in a cardboard box and was nice and shiney when we opened 2 boxes of it and close inspection of a dozen rounds showed no deformation of the cases. On an unscientific inspection 3/4 of it headstamps Israeli, about 10% U.S. LC, the rest looks Port. None of the production dates were before 1987. :D

Do you have any contact info for this "Southern Ammo"?

I've heard so many bad things about that Indian ammo, it makes me wonder--is it really that bad? Why would a nation with so many threats to its national security have such low-quality small arms ammo, third world or not?

There's 2 'classes', for want of a better word, of the Indian. The loose stuff that Century and others was selling had very bad problems with bullet seating. OTOH, if the ammunitin came in paper bundles tied with cord you were ok. Some companies are selling Indian 7.62 as "sorted" and as safe. I suppose if you place all the rounds side by side and toss out the too tall and too short ones then you've sorted out the out of spec ammunition.

Southern Ammo's phone number is 843-756-3262.

We got our 5.56 just in time, but they said they would be getting another shipment of 7.62 in over the weekend when we checked on friday. They made no gurantees that our order would be filled out of this shipment (first come-first served), but that it should be filled before the middle of October.
