I was wondering if some of you guys could give me suggestions on what model of 1911 to buy. I have come up with a list of 3, I have 1,000 to spend, (not a penney more!)

After I get the firearm I am going to send it to Tripp for Cobra Chrome, also a set of good looking wood/pearl/ivory girps depending on what firearm I end up with.

#1 : Colt Government XSE (01980XSE) About $900.00
#2 : Springfield Custom Loaded Full Size (PX9154L) About $800.00
#3 : Kimber Custom TLE II (Blue/Steel) About $900.00

Any other suggestions? Wich do you think is the better of the 3?

I dont have any expiriance with the kimbers, and not much with the colts, but i've fired a bunch of Springfields and i've never been dissapointed. Accurate, very nice clean trigger, reliable. Excellent guns. Totally my personal oppinion though ;)

I would look at the Colt 1991's and any older Colt pistols that might be out there. I cannot stand the XSE with the pseudo-beavertail grip safety that forces my hand into the wrong position.

If it is getting refinished, a little cosmetic wear is no issue, so I would look at used guns, especially older ones. As far as new pistols, you may wish to look at the STI Trojan 5.0. Blued ones go for about $900, and you can order them with the sights of your choice. Hard chrome is also a factory option with the Trojan.

If you do not buy a pistol that has already been chromed, I would also shoot the heck out of it before sending it off to Tripp Research, so you can make sure the pistol works and works for you. You may find you want some modifications to make the pistol better suit you.

Don't Forget, the firearm must be on the ::cough::The Rich ::cough:: Peoples Republic of **********'s DOJ Approved Firearms Roster :barf:

I vote for a Kimber.

I've owned a Springfield Loaded and presently own and carry a TLE II. The Springfield was nice but shot low for me. I could have sent it back in to Springfield to have the sights fixed, but my brother wanted to buy it from me. The TLE has the series II crap and external extractor but has been 100% for me and is a tackdriver. Never owned a Colt but there are people that swear by them.

I prefer the Kimber obviously out of the 3, but I think they are all quality firearms. Pick one and be happy.

I went to look at a Para earlier this year, but came home with an XSE Commander. It is the most satisfying pistol I've ever owned. Very accurate, reliable, and almost as importantly - very visually appealing (to me). The only other 1911 I've ever owned was also a Colt, so I can't really compare with the Kimber or Springfield.

Any reason you left out Smith and Wesson?

They're cheaper than the three you listed, and the equal of them all....with a company that delivers VERY good cust. service.

I think the reason I left it out was because I really dont like "S&W 1911"

On the side of it in those big block letters covering the slide

They no longer come with the large rollmark -- it's now a tasteful/smaller two-line lettering w/ the S&W symbol to the left of the lines. Here's an example. (http://www.gunsamerica.com/guns/976607697.htm)
