I'm sure that many Indiana THR members already know this, but for those who do not, I wanted to pass along some news about recent votes and comments by our junior senator.
Quoting the American Rifleman from the Oct. 2005 issue -
"Sen. Bayh pledged last year to support legislation to block frivolous lawsuits against the firearm industry, and NRA sent a letter to Indiana members encouraging them to thank him. Sen. Bayh failed to honor his pledge and voted for the Reed amendment to completely gut S.397. When the Reed substitute was soundly defeated 63 to 33, Bayh voted against final passage of the bill."
Secondly, he recently announced that he was planning on voting against Judge Roberts' confirmation. Bayh stated that Roberts had not answered enough questions to satisfy him. Of course, this ignores the precedent that other nominees have followed which is that they should not make comments regarding issues which are likely to come before them while serving. As an attorney, Bayh is more familiar with this than most people.
I don't editorialize on this forum often, but I will now. It's well past time for Bayh to be replaced. The above topics are just more proof that we need to get the news out to inform others of what this guy is doing. He does a good job of maintaining the image of someone who represents this state with a variety of reasonable stances, confident that the local news media, both broadcast and print, won't go the extra step and actually tell the voters just how he has been voting. :cuss: One of the talking points of his first campaign was that he was running in order to support "Hoosier Values." It's long since been clear that as he was getting on the plane to go to D.C., that he was tossing that plank of his campaign in the trash. :barf:
