Well guys I just got my .338mag, but I have a problem. I don't know if I should buy factory ammo and save the brass or just buy brass and start reloading. I kinda don't want to have to trim the new brass. I can get factory ammo for about $21-25 a box. brass from midway is is close to $38 for 50. What are your thoughts???

your going have to trim the brass anyway, if not when new you will after you fire it.

Buy as large a lot of new brass as you can afford and resign yourself to full length sizing it ALL, and trimming it ALL to uniform length. That way you won't have to figure out which is which batch, and you'll have removed at least one set of variables in your quest for uniformity, and thus accuracy.

Hint: It is a hassle, but try to rotate the brass so that you have loaded it all about equal numbers of times.

Another hint--Surf the net a bit. I think you can beat that price somewhat. You might want to order more than 50 at a time.

What kind of powder are you going to use? How about bullets? I had every good luck with Alliant ReLoder 19, and the Hornady 225 gr. Spire Point bullets. Happily, these also happened to be the least expensive bullets I could find, while at the same time being quite accurate.

YMMV, of course. What kind of rifle did you get?

The rifle is a rem. bdl 700 left handed. I will probably start with IMR4831, as for the bullet I don't know. I would like to make it as versatile as possible so maybe nosler Bal. tip for mule deer and partitions/ fail safes for bigger game. AS for getting to shoot the thing I will either us hornady sp. or sierra, that way it stays cheaps for me to practice with a magnum. I made a typo with the price it was $35 for 100 rounds.
