The local equivalent to a C&R shop here in Sydney, Aus. has for some time been out of stock of 7.62x54R. Not exactly an easy calibre to get at the best of times, and nigh on impossible to get here in Sydney (even reloading) at the moment.
So when I asked the gunstore owner when the next shipment of 7.62x54R and 7.62x39 would be arriving, he stated that the U.S. State Department had cancelled all exportation of 'assault rifle' ammunition with '7.62' in the title.
7.62x51, 7.62x39, 7.62x54R, 7.62x25 etc all restricted from being exported simply because these calibres are listed with 7.62.
Now get this, it is perfectly ok to export 30-06 because it's listed as 30-06 and not 7.62x63.
Luckily the store owner has some commercial Yugo ammo arriving next month, so I'll be able resupply on 7.62x54R to some degree. He aslo might try getting 7.62x54R and 7.62x39 exported from the U.S. by listing them as .30 Russian long and .30 Russian short......
Does anyone in the U.S. have any information that they can add to this by chance?
