Deleated Post: Citizen watch
Diamondback
September 29, 2005, 12:46 PM
I posted for sale on the "Buy, sell...accessories" thread a Citizen watch for sale and the post has been deleated. As far as I know I had followed all the rules....included was the state in which it is for sale and asking price; there were no excessive "bumps", all communictions were respectful. I have contacted Derek through a PM about the matter and reposted the watch for sale. If I am in violation of any rule please advise...I wish to comply. I have had some interest from members in buying the watch and hope to be able list it here for sale. Thanks for your help on this...I want to be a member who follows the rules !
Here is a copy of my communication with Derek:

I don't know why it was deleted, but it may be a moderator thought it wasn't in-line with the stuff you'd expect to see on a gun board.
Post a question in tech support about why it was disappeared, and someone will give you the answer. If it's something debatable, then that'll be the place to do it too.

I have reread the posting rules and am going to repost the watch for sale. If there is some violation please contact me and I will IMMEDIATELY comply with your request.

I don't think I'm the moderator who deleted that thread, but I probably would have if I'd seen it.
We have forums to buy or sell Handguns, Rifles and Shotguns, and Firearms Accessories.
A watch doesn't fit into any of those categories, therefore THR isn't the place to post a watch for sale.
I do wish you well in selling your goods.

pax,
I am a bit confused...I have often seen wrist watches for sale on the "accessories" forum. I can see not allowing someome to post bedroom furniture or even a computer for sale .....however it is the moderators call....and I respect that ! Still I don't see any clear delineated guidelines in the "Posting Rules" sticky.
Does that mean that the member who has MRE's listed for sale on the same forum can expect to have his post deleated too....what about hand held flashlights....knives......"bug out" gear...a compass ?
The Citizen Eco-Drive watch I had listed has a chronograph function and is solar powered.....I don't see how a chronographic wrist watch isn't loosely shooting/hunting related....just my .02$...certainly the watch is more shooting related than MRE's !

Diamondback: Yes, this is a bone of contention with me as well. I know I have seen several times, watches posted for sale in that thread.
I had posted two of my watches to sell at the beginning of August, and my post was deleted in less than a day. When I inquired, I got the same answer that you did, however, very shortly after, I saw posts selling watches that were not deleted---one was told it was not acceptable, but the post was not deleted. I brought this up in a post of my own in this thread--do a search for "Can you post watches to sell or not" (or something like that).
And then I saw your post, which I believe, you had running for several days. After a while I thought, ***, I'll repost my watches---you got over 100 people to look at your post. It didn't seem that anyone was objecting. I posted my watches last night. I see that, this morning (all times EDT) they are gone, as is yours.
So, what gets my goat is the "selective enforcement" aspect of this. Some people post watches for sale, get lots of hits, presumably even sell the things, no "you can't sell watches here", then the Fudgie Ghost posts his watches and they get deleted. Does someone not like me? Or is it just Ghosts in general? Or Fudgie people? Or what?

Fudgie ~
It isn't selective enforcement. It's simply this thing called "Real Life" that sometimes interferes with online life.
Believe it or not, moderators are neither omnipresent nor omniscient. We aren't here all the time and we don't see everything.
We deal with what we see, when we see it. If you can't deal with that, I'm sorry but that's the way it is.

I clearly don't think it is personal....I do however respectfully ask the moderators to rethink their decission. Clearly a good solar powered wrist watch with a chrono function is someting one would find useful in the woods...on a hunt....part of EDC along with wallet, cell phone, folding knife, and CCW.
Just a thought to consider.
-Best regards to all !

I'll cast my vote for the sellers.
Look: What's a better community to sell treasured items to known members of a good organization, THR?
Better here, where it appears to have a better chance of ending up in caring hands, then on eBay to end up in a trash bin a month later.
We have forums to buy or sell Handguns, Rifles and Shotguns, and Firearms Accessories.
A watch doesn't fit into any of those categories, therefore THR isn't the place to post a watch for sale.
Yes it does. You can use the cronograph function on your watch to clock your ISPC/IPDA times, your friend to clock your Western Fast-draw with a SAA, you could use the flash of the guns to power the watch :D
Besides, what if someone wants to sell a G18c, M93R, etc full-auto pistols, does that count as handgun? A carbine isn't really a rifle, so you couldn't sell those, either, and does a 0-bore scattergun count as a shotgun?
What about trigger group for an MP5? Is that an accessory?

Please, let this be the end of this discussion.
We don't allow watches (cars, furniture, hifi equipment, wallets, cell phones, etc.) for sale in the firearms accessories forum. Do some slip by? Of course they do. We try to close or delete all that we see, but as pax said, we aren't going to catch them all for various reasons. If any of you see a thread for an item that isn't allowed, please feel free to report it - before it has already been sold (that was the case a little while back that Fudgie Ghost was referring to).
Fudgie Ghost, you seem to be taking this personally and you shouldn't be. You are one among about 40 or 50 who have had their non-firearm item threads deleted this year alone. It's just that you don't see them, so it appears that yours was the only one deleted.
[Brick - you don't have a vote. ;) ]

No, this isn't really that important to me.
I just find it odd Diamondback has his post up, for, what, I don't know how many days, and then I post my watches, and it gets noticed within hours. I kept checking on his post, at work and at home, waiting for it to be pulled or for a post from the mods telling him watches were'nt approved.
Guess I just have bad timing.

What about knives? They arent firearms accessories, but we have a forum dedicated to non-firearms weapons, are they appropriate in the trade forums? Or can we talk about them, but not buy/sell them? Myself, and other on the forum have recieved some great deals on knives and flashlights, and i would hate to see all of those get pulled too.

Knives have always been allowed, AFAIK. Flashlights are often an integral part of SD and HD plans, so they are also allowed.
