Old Case XX....Model? Value?

Let's see if any of you can help me out with a knife I've had for a while. My great-grandfather bought this knife new in the late '30s or early '40s and eventually gave it to my father in the late 70s and then I got it in the mid 80s. It is a Case XX with stag (?) grips, removable blade and hatchet, and the original brown leather sheath. There is a patent date of OCT 22, 1935 on the fold-out section of the handle with a ruler on the other. I was told that this is a hunting model where the hatchet is used to break a deer's spine. It appears to be in original condition and looks to have never had a sharpening stone put to it. Here are some pictures that I've taken of it....

Anyone know the model or its value? My father took it to a gun and knife show in the early 90s. Everyone wanted to buy it, but no one would tell him what it was worth.

I would direct you to the forum on Case's site:

It's new but someone from Case could answer your question! :)

Thanks for the website addy. I couldn't register for the forum, something about having a member number, so I just emailed Shirley Boser, who is a Case Historian. She said that it is a #561 Deluxe Knife Axe Combination Set and valued near $1000 in mint condition. Mine isn't mint, but actually closer than my pictures show (the camera flash showed the slightest imperfections and makes scratches appear where there are not any). I'm just happy to know the model of it, now. Thanks, again. :D

Ahh, yea that's the Case Collector's Club. Also try http://www.knifeforums.com/forums/showforum.php?fid/74/ which is the Case forum at Knifeforums, and Shirley is there also. :)

Shirley gives the straight dope; but the market varies a lot. Try showing the knife to some dealers at some local knife shows. Dealers occasionally know certain collectors who are looking for specific models. Or, if you want to access the best open market, go to Pigeon Forge next Dec 3-5 for "The Greatest Knife Show on Earth".

...but the market varies a lot. Try showing the knife to some dealers at some local knife shows.I'm not overly concerned with the value of it as long as I don't need to take out an extra insurance policy out for it. I was mainly interested in the model and years of production than the value of it. If I were selling it, I'd be more concerned with the value, but it'll stay in the family as long as I'm alive. I'm not into knives, so it'll just sit in my safe and stay in mostly the same condition that it is now.

Just in case you didn't know, remember to take it out of the leather sheath and to oil it well.
