Florida Law is 24 Hours Old

Well, Florida's new law codifying the right of Floridians to use deadly force to protect their life is almost 24 hours old.

Today, I went to the Credit Union, my local gun shop (bought a Taurus PT111), Wally-World for ammo, BP for cigarettes and Winn-Dixie for groceries.

Guess what?

I DIDN'T see blood running in the streets.

I DIDN't see a fender-bender turning into a shootout at the OK Corral

I DIDN'T see blue-hairs shooting it out in aisle 6 of Wal-Mart for the last box of hair coloring.

This must REALLY p*ss off the Bunch!

I dont know what part of Florida you guys are in, but Hernando county sounds like an Iraqi wedding. Here is a picture of the walmart supercenter. Someone tried to cut in line and a gunfight broke out. LOL wild west.

Local Fox News out here in SoCal had a tiny pc on it. They had that
policeman who was on the news alot back when 9/11 happened. I
think his name in Timmey ? Anyway he's doing his best to scare
people into thinking folks down in Fla will shoot anyone. Fox said
the VPC was handing out fliers down there advising visitors to
be "very careful" of what you do in Fl due to this new law being
in effect..What a crock.

Well down here in Kowtown, I've already worn the finish off one gun slappin leather. I got a pile of spent brass big enough to ski down. And thats just from driving to fill up with gas. Joe

Hell, I never wanted to go to Florida, but now that you have this new shooting law, I think I will. Floridians were fools to pass it because uber-tactical ninjas like myself are going to go down there to "see the elephant". That's right. With everyone itchin for a gun fight, I am heading south so I can prove I have what it takes to take on Al Queda, armed robbers, the UN, zombies, and any other delusional threats to my uber-tactical lifestyle.

And you know what my first scenario will probably be? Here will be my statement at my trial...Your honor, I had just arrived to Florida and of course I was packing two handguns, a 14" barrel shotgun, and my 11" AR under my trench coat. I had heard Florida had turned to the wild, wild west...I mean east. So anyway, I get out of my car to go get some gas and this strange hippie looking scoundrel comes running my way with what looked like a improvised explosive device made of paper. They were screaming and holloring at me and I felt I had no other choice than to shoot...156 times. How was I supposed to know it wasn't a suicide bomber, but merely a Brady Center volunteer coming to warn me about blood in the streets and that the IED was only a propaganda flyer?

Yesterday my local paper had in huge letters, "SHOOT FIRST LAW TO TURN AREA INTO OK CORRAL"

Mistakenly I read the article. Here is where I think BP meds might help.

Anyway, the article didnt even come close to saying what the law really is, but made it sound like FLorida residents now have the legal right to defend themselves. Not one word on the fact that we have always had said legal right. You would think they can at least read where it says now we can shoot a scumbag that is trying to maim, kill, rape or do other greivous bodily harm to us without having to RETREAT.

Some people will just NEVER get it I spose.

Best
Bill

Are you talking to me?

Are YOU talking to ME?

Do you remember this scene from Taxi Driver?

Robert DeNiro confronts himself in the mirror with gun drawn. He is a man tired of retreating, a man ready to stand his ground.

Now imagine that character cruising International Drive in his taxi, arguing with a drunk tourist about the fare, blasting him full of holes, claiming that under Florida's new "Stand Your Ground" law, he felt threatened.

The only reason you dont see blood running is becuase it all hapened in the first 10 minutes. After that, all the Yahoo slave-owning-redneck-conservative-anti-abortion-anti-gay-fascist govt guys in black came and cleaned everyone up and brainwashed them.

Some things never change.

A very VERY long time ago, the final exam for my freshman history class consisted of one question: "Why 1914?"

I filled two or three composition books trying to explain why I thought WW1 had broken out in 1914, as opposed to perhaps 1912 or 1916 or some other unidentified, hypothetical date. History was not my best or favorite subject, but I left feeling that I had done a decent job.

Imagine my surprise when I got my exam back and the grade was 'F.' I went to see the professor, showed him the exam, and asked why I had failed. He said "You didn't answer the question. I wanted to know why World War One occurred."

When I pointed out that what he asked was not why it occurred but why it occurred in a specific year, he got this deer-in-headlights look and finally conceded that it had never occurred to him the question could be read that way. In the end, rather than go to the trouble of actually READING my essay he decided to give me a 'C' to get rid of me.

We do have a fairly complete language, with enough words to cover virtually any situation. Sometimes we need to remember to use the correct words.

csmkersh,

Yesterday my local paper had in huge letters, "SHOOT FIRST LAW TO TURN AREA INTO OK CORRAL"

What newspaper was that? The reference you gave did not have that title in huge letters. They make reference in your article to gun control advocates saying this would turn FL into the OK Corral, but did a newspaper actually make the bold headline you have quoted? If so, what newspaper was it?

I figure all the crazy gun owners are using the weekend to rest. Tomorrow is the moment of truth. Mondays aren't good for anyone, let alone those lunatic gun owners.

My girlfriend thought the law was rediculous. She goes "***? We had to retreat before? What a crock of poop." I wish everyone saw it that way, you know, the way that MAKES SENSE.

At least I don't have to worry about the guys family suing me because he broke into my apartment and got his ass killed.

Willie Meggs, who was president of the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association when the Legislature considered the bill this spring, said it solves a problem that doesn't exist.

"We may not have any problems with it and if we don't, that's fine," said Meggs, the state attorney for Leon County. "But what I worry about, and I don't know if it will come to fruition, is that people who should be prosecuted will have a defense for using force when they didn't need to."

If the problem does not exist then they should not have a problem with the law.

Just couldn't resist posting this rediculous poster I found on Yahoo. Nevermind, I can't get the attachment to work. :banghead: It's a shame what the Brady Bunch will try to put in people's heads. Basically scaring the tourists and hurting that industry. Sadly, it doesn't do anything to keep people from wanting to move to our beautiful Sunshine State! :cuss: The growth here is incredible and there's no end in sight.

csmkersh,

Sorry I wasn't trying to be a horse's patuty. I just wanted to know the name of the newspaper that published the headline that you quoted.

If you would give me the name of the paper, I would write them a letter to the editor and complain.

But now I am confused. I can find references made to "OK Corral" being used by anti-gun people, but I can't find where a newspaper used that in a headline. I am not trying to be difficult, I just want to sort fact from fiction on this issue.

What is the OP?

IMHO this furor will accomplish two things;

It lets the hotheads know to keep their mouth shut and hands down when they really feel like belting someone.

After 2 years and the crime and death by firearm rate goes down even more, maybe people will realize it is a good law.

csmkersh,

Sorry I wasn't trying to be a horse's patuty. I just wanted to know the name of the newspaper that published the headline that you quoted.

And I was probably over reacting. Sorry.

If you would give me the name of the paper, I would write them a letter to the editor and complain.

I didn't have any luck either with that exact headline. That's the reason I pointed you back to the Original Poster/OP. (http://www.thehighroad.org/showpost.php?p=1946039&postcount=9) He can at least provide the name of his hometown paper.
