An AR-15 chambered for .45 ACP or an AK-47 chambered for 9mm?

I had one of the Olympic Arms uppers in .45 for a '15 once. Worked pretty good. Mags were Uzi's with a hex head screw tacked on the back. Really accurate out to about 75 yards. The 47 in 9mm, and I'm a pretty big 9 fan, would seem like taking a Kenworth on family vacation. It'll get you there, but there's better ways to do it.

Better? How?

Cost? Reliablity? Ease of conversion?

I'd say the AR-15 style carbine would be easier to procure, would be convertable to many other calibers with the purchase of different caliber uppers, and would probably take inexpensive M3 "Greasgun" magazines.

The format of the AK is pretty permanant requiring riviting or welding, and presumably, unless you have a source for a 9mm AK, ready made, somwehere at a reasonable cost, it's going to be a one-off custom gunsmithing project.

So I would say that the .45 AR is "better" because it's more "do-able" in terms of being able to purchase one, or assembling one easily from off the shelf parts. The 9mm AK would only be "better" if you know where to get one for less than a .45 AR, or a .223 AR plus a .45 conversion upper, and it takes some kind of cheap reliable 9mm magazines like the STEN. Then, plus the price of 9mm ammo, it would be cheaper to operate.

Way back when during my military days my .223 loadout was 200 rounds. Sometimes we would move on foot ten to fifteen k meters at night thru austere terrain. Back then, I am glad I didn't have to carry 200 rds of .45cal

An AK chambered in 7.62x25 Tok.

Now THAT, is an interesting idea...but only if you're also carrying a CZ-52.

Why?

Why the Oly PCR (Politically Correct Rifle) in .45 ACP? Because there are evil pumpkins about in the world. Because right about now the zuchinni are multiplying faster than rabbits. But mostly because of the "buzzz-whinnnng!" sound of the buffer spring!

stay safe.

I vote for the AK in 45,but then,I am an "AK guy".All the AR rifles I used to own would jam frequently, and that's in 2 different calibers. All my AK rifles have not jammed or malfunctioned 5 times total between all 6 of them,in 5 different calibers... :D

Um... the Bizon IS chambered in 7.62 Tok and 9mm or 9mm Mak... and it uses 75% of the parts of an AK74.

The main difference between an AR-series pistol cal gun and a Bizon is the 64 round helical magazine (though I understand the Tok version of the Bizon can use PPsh stick mags)

There WAS talk of one small builder making a civilian Bizon (as a pistol) but he hasn't figured out how to work the helical mag yet.

The pistol cal AR's use weird magwell inserts that I understand don't always work well.

You know, a revolver that shoots 7.62x39 could be very interesting in one of those video games...

I want a 12 ga. S&W M60. I wonder how much it would cost to have mine converted. Full choke of course, Buckshot Only marked on the barrel :D .

An AR-15 chambered for .45 ACP or an AK-47 chambered for 9mm?

Okay am I the only one who is wondering if this is meant humorously?

Have I got a deal for you. How about my .32 S&W Special sniper rifle?

I've got the weight down to 11 lbs and it's deady accruate out to 35 meters.

And it's got enought knock down to take out an angry rabbit at 25 feet.
