XD9 Tactical Problems

As far as accuracy goes, I am pleased with my XD9 tactical, but I cannot get past 2-3 rounds, sometimes 5-8, without a jam of some kind. I have even had the slide NOT move when hired. It still showed loaded chamber due to the case still inside the chamber. I am shooting Remington UMC 115 FMJ. Has anyone else had this problem? It shot 5 rounds of Winchester 127 SXT +p+ without any problems. What should I do? The gun is good and clean. I have less than 100 rounds through it yet. Do I need to send it back to Springfield or try something on my own.

Thanks

It's pretty obvious that it's just that particular type of ammo that you are using, Springfield would say the same thing. Just use something else that you know works.

edit: except for the slide not moving when fired, may want to check on that

Ok, it might be some sort of break in issue. Stick with it for 500-1000 rds.

At that point, if its still messing up:
if it cant feed UMC, I'd send it back to SA, as a 9mm that can't feed basic FMJ is not much use to me.

The ammunition might not be enough to cycle the gun..especially since you said it runs with the +p+ ammo..It may loosen up as the recoil spring takes a set once the gun is fired a bunch..or try and find some +p ammo and see if that will make it run or get a lighter recoil spring.

i'm having the same issue with the ammo I am shooting. rapid fire it does fine but if I slow down (2-3 secs b/w shots) it will jam. I thought it was one of the 3 mags that came with the gun. It jammed, I marked the mag, then it jammed on another mag.
I can't remember the name of the ammo. got them from my local FFL guy. the box has a styro holder for the rounds and the box is covered with brass casings.
I will shoot some more of it to see if its just the ammo. If it is, I will sell it to my brother for his 92f, that gun will cycle anything. otherwise, i'm very happy with the XD9. Hopefully, its just the ammo cause thats an easy fix.

Should I change the recoil spring to a lighter weight? I bought the 9mm mainly becuase of the ability to shoot cheap FMJ ammo, so I dont want to have to change to a more expensive hollow point ammo. Do I need to go up to a 124 or 147 grain FMJ for more reliable feeding? Just more questions. Thanks for the help. I will get some different ammo as soon as I can and go try it again.

IMHO, a modern autoloader should feed just about everything. If you are that concerned right now, send it to springfield.

Besides the slide not moving that one time please explain the nature of the jams.

It has stovepiped an empty round, wedged rounds between the slide and feed ramp deforming brass as if it is not picking up the rounds right, and the rounds have jammed with the nose aginst the top of the chamber and the rim against the face of the slide. When the slide did not cycle was only when my younger sister shot it so I am not too worried about that one, she has very little experience with handguns and was probably limp wristing.

That really doesn't sound right. I guess I'd try another brand but that stuff should run in an XD. I would want to send it back personally. Maybe something is wrong with the extractor.

Sorry to hear about your bad luck. If you're sure you're not limp-wristing, I'd say you definetly have a problem. That gun should cycle like a charm with Remington 115gr. I'd shoot some +P through it. If those don't work, send it back for sure. My XD is one of the most reliable guns I've ever fired.

Did you, by chance, buy the gun used? Because this sounds like a heavier-than-stock recoil spring has been installed.
