I live in Wilmington NC. I am looking for a good place to shoot outdoors in the area. Withing 50 to 75 miles I'd say. I would prefer free, of course, but a modestly priced place would work. There is on place near Shalotte but the guy has gone to Annual Memberships and that's not really something I'm looking to get into. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

its a nice drive for you but up hwy 74 and left somewhere around Rockingham will take you to the Uwharries. Inside the National forest is a Free public range. They have a campground just down the road with paved roads and Bathhouses. maybe not a one day thing but a nice weekend camping trip it is; especially this time of year. But it gets packed this time of year with Hunters, and recreational drives; lots of atv trails.......

Hello, MisterG,

Take a look at http://www.huntingnavigator.com/SRNC1.htm for a list that seems pretty good. Note there is one indoor range listed in Wilmington-

Shooter's Choice
910-350-0486
Indoor Pistol (25 yds), Indoor Rifle (.22 only)
6789 Gordan Rd., Wilmington, NC 28411

Also see the news story at http://www.wect.com/Global/story.asp?S=3484503 .

And it's across the river but might be useful to know about:
Ye Olde Gun Club & Shooting Range
N.C. Hwy. 211, Southport
(910) 278-3763, (910) 523-0203

This large and secluded shooting range offers safety classes and concealment certification along with a covered area and practice ranges that include black powder, archery and trap shooting ranges, 25 to 500 yard rifle ranges, and 7 to 25 yard pistol ranges. Call for directions, times of operation and other information.
