Wife Made My Day!

October 5, 2005, 01:06 PM
Because of my recent diagnosis and treatment of Breast Cancer I had to sell a good many guns I've had to cover copays and such. Anyway, my wife took me yesterday and made me buy this for myself. I'd been wanting one since they came out but they've been very rare to find here.

My Ruger Alaskan in 454.

I've never seen one in person, I didn't realize they were so beefy. That is one sweet looking piece. Enjoy!

Thanks for the replies and encouragement! The cancer was found early and they were able to remove it surgically. The chemo is an insurance policy just to get anything that might be floating around that they couldn't see. I've got two more treatments left. My advice to any man that may read this is if you feel any lump in your breast, or swelling, anything abnormal you make a doctor do a biopsy. A lot of men get breast cancer and most don't find out about it until it has spread all over their bodies. The first doctor I went to at an urgent care place told me not to worry about it. Luckily my regular doctor insisted on a biopsy and mammogram. The link below is full of info that every male should know about. Don't take any chances and be around for a lot of years to shoot these Rugers!!

Sweet. Nice pics. See if you can give us another one with a clear view of that .454 muzzle. I've seen one in person and the revolver's design makes it look freaking huge. Great for intimidation value if, God forbid, you had to use the Alaskan to dissuade or defend against two-legged threats.

Here's the muzzle view!

Glad yer doin' OK. Breast cancer in men is unusual, but not all that rare. Thanks for the good advice.

Now, regarding the 'Alaskan', a most cool revolver, but you are in VA afterall, and we really don't have that many things that need shooting with that kind of hand cannon, not that it won't do a fine job on some of the 'light work' around here, and CW has always been 'use enough gun', so as a former Boy Scout, yer at least well prepared. Congratulations on your new 'baby', and double congratulations on a fine wife with excellent taste and senesitivities. Stay well. :D

Thanks for sharing. My mom passed from Breast Cancer in 1996. Lived with it for 8 or so years. Keep us posted. Sounds like you are doing excellent.

Now the Alaskan issue. Wow. I have had mine on order since January!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I ordered my Milt Sparks PMK for it in may. They didn't have a pattern yet. Well my holster arrived 2 weeks ago, and my Alaskan is still?????? Enjoy that will ya!!!!!!!!!!!

Big44 - welcome along :) And also very pleased you seem to have good and effective treatment. Indeed breast cancer is not and never has been a purely female condition.

The gun? Well what can I say - lust and envious thinking prevail!!! I shall have to remain content (for now) with my SRH and Raging Bull.

Nice pics :)

That gun looks massive. I bet it kicks hard too. I'd like to try one out though :) .
