Gunstore Commando

My younger daughter joined the Army Reserves earlier this year, went though basic and AIT, and is now back home drilling with her reserve unit. It turns out that at their next training session, they will qualify with various sorts of firearms.

The arsenal of democracy consists, in this case, of the M-16 (sorry, Daddy can't help with that one, although he does have an AK or two); the SAW (no, Daddy is not a class 3 dealer); and, of all things, the .22 pistol (!!).

Ok, Daddy may be set up to provide a little help with that last one.

The kid got no chance at all to fire any kind of handgun in Basic or AIT. I went through NRA Instructor training earlier this year, and feel reasonably confident of being able to teach her fundamentals of marksmanship, etc. But as I am only a gun store commando, and not a real commando, I haven't the slightest idea what sort of course of fire this might be. Slow fire, rapid fire, one hand, two hands, what kind of range, what kind of pistols, etc., etc.?

Any thoughts as to what kind of qual course they might be shooting?

If, using an issued M-9 (or a Beretta M-92F), your daughter can keep all the rounds in a paper plate at 25 yards she is doing better than the vast majority of soldiers.

Course of fire, such as it is, will most likely be 30 rounds at distances from 5 to 25 yards, using both hands, slow fire. Nothing high speed here.

If you can instill basic marksmanship and firearms handling with rifles and pistols she will be ahead of the game.
