I have always wondered why i spent so much time researching my gun buys based on my needs? I have generally bought what i needed for the task at hand. I found myself looking in my cases, and i have realized i have collected alot of firearms over the years.
My tool list contains:

Ishapore enfield .308 sporterized-hunting
Ruger blackhawk .45 long colt-woods gun
Ruger GP-100 3in .357-house gun
Sig P228-CCW
Sig P239-wifes CCW
Rem 870-18in/24in-all purpose/hunting
Rossi 720 .44 special-fun gun/it was (free)..lol
Mossberg Bullpup shottie in 12 gauge-not sure why?
Bushmaster Bullpup M17-another not sure why?
S&W mdl CS-1 .357 MAG-IT WAS SEXY! Had too!
Now, i find myself looking at another buy..A RUGER NO.1 MEDIUM SPORTER IN 45-70! I feel like i need to seek help? This gun buying thing just keeps growing. is there help out there for those of us who suffer? I need a good excuse to tell the wife why this rifle is needed... any ideas? :banghead:

I've been eyeing a full size USP stainless 45 on GunBroker that I surely don't need but I still WANT it cause it's such a good deal. Last night My 6 year old son and I were looking through one of my magazines and I said I'd like to get a revolver. He asked me why and I told him "because I don't have one". His response was that I have too many guns already :uhoh:. I asked him if he had been talking to my girlfriend ;). You may be out of control when your 6 year old son (who is a weapon fan himself) tells you that you have too many guns. Eh... what do they know :p

"...need a good excuse..." No excuse required if you have a reason. "I want one." is reason enough. Mind you, if you look around, you'll notice right away that I don't live there. You could try exclaiming, " Where'd that come from???" when she sees it in your safe.

I have a few guns that were bought due to a specific need/requirement, but most were just because I like them. I really have no practical use for my Calico M-100, but it's fun. Same goes for the Cx4, AR-10A2 carbine, Vaquero .44 mag, etc.

Dont get that #1 in 45-70. That marlin is too cool already and you wont shoot it much anymore if you do. I saw you dont have a varmit gun so I recomend you get a #1 in 204 ruger which is probably the coolest varmit gun around and a new exiting cartrige.

If a Ruger #1 is purchased to be a varmint rifle, expect to drop some coin on accurizing. The #1 is a beatiful rifle, and unrivaled for strength. But they are not known for being tack drivers out of the box.
A more economical single shot in .204 would be the NEF Handi-Rifle heavy barrel. I have one in .22 Hornet, and they're tough to beat for $200 NIB.
My personal recommendation for a first varmint rifle? Howa M-1500 Varminter. The Blued/Synthetic model can be had for ~$400 and is sub-MOA. Also super-easy to tune the trigger (same as a Remington M-700, which is the pattern for the Japanese-made Howa's). I have one in .223 with a Bushnell Elite 6.5-18x 50mm scope and it is just over 1/2 MOA with the right load (it likes 40 gr V-maxes at ~3700 FPS). Of course, my personal favorite varmint rifle is my Remington 700 LVSF in .17 Rem. with a Weaver V-16 fine reticle 4-16x 42mm scope. It shoots .6-.7 MOA (5-shot groups), and the recoil is so mild you never loose your sight picture. Still pretty darn loud, though :D

OK! I went ahead and bought the ruger NO.1. I just had too. I love the 45-70 cartridge. I also acted on some advice given...I did need a varmit rifle didn't i?
What is the or your opinions on the Savage bolt rifle in heavy barrel config, 223 cal?
