So Law and Order just ended on TNT, and the movie that started next is called "Set It Off". It starts with a bank robbery, with the guy using this very fake looking revolver.
The barrel looks to be .50 caliber? .60? More? And a .38/357 cylinder.
Can you say blow-by? :D
Anyone else got any good (bad!) ones?
(And no its not way zoomed in to make the barrel big, took a snapshot of the screen with my digicam and cropped out his head and torso)

I've seen bb guns used as stand ins for real guns a few times. There is a show on cable that is called like the FBI files. One reinacted the FBI 1986 Miami shooting and I could tell some of the guns were air guns and other mistakes like a store in the background did not even exist in 1986 I don't think.
Also many posters depicting various types of Mexican music artists often show the singers holding a firearm. One was on horseback, and if you looked close, you could tell it was an air rifle!

It looks like a poorly composed picture, (not by you) that suffers from a sort of long straight rail road track effect. Have you ever seen the pictures where a straight RR track seems to narrow as it gets farther away? Same effect.. Poor photography in this case ,but dramatic for the non shooting "general" public. Sadly that even in 2005 TV still has to be geared for the lowest common denominator...

Yeah, trick of the camera.
Though I seem to recall a certain photographer friend of ours Photoshopping the muzzle end of the poodleshooter in one of his pics to look less poodle-shooterish. :)

Dawn of the Dead. The M16A1s that Peter and Roger used were either BB guns or .22s - in one scene you could see Peter "reloading" his M16 by popping out the small, inner magazine from the faux outer magazine shell.

I dunno. I had a revolver aimed at me when I was a LEO. The muzzle in that pic doesn't look NEARLY as large as the one I saw! :what:

Mulliga-
I know exactly the scene youre talking about in Dawn of the dead-. One of the characters ejects this little skinny mag out of the bottom of the pheaux-mag on the gun. IIRC they were called AP-74's, imported by Jeager back in the '70's and early '80's.
I used to go see that movie with Doug McDougall (of Scott/McDougall fame) and it was like Rocky Horror only for shooters. The line Doug would shout out that always got a laugh in the audience was when the Swat dude stabbed the zombie in the ear with a screwdriver "oh man-left hand threads!..."

A very good observation. I think this is the case.

The M16s in DotD were the Jaeger 74 .22 lr M16 replicas.
That gun was also available in .32 ACP (7.65 mm Browning).
The tiny .22/.32 magazines slide inside a fake .223 magazine
housing that is part of the receiver. Otherwise, a good
M16 replica if you don't look too close and no one does a
mag change on-camera (that was a goof in the movie).

I remember some Stephen King flick where a bad guy author has 'come to life' he's holding the family hostage with a bb pistol... the markings are clearly visible.

Along with fake guns, another pet peeve of mine is when actors cycle the action on their guns like a million times.
Ex:
"2 minutes! Lock and load!" <everyone works the action on their pistols/rifles>
[2 minutes later, they're about to bust into the BG hideout]
"Remember: shoot to kill." <everyone works the action on their pistols/rifles>
[After the big gunfight, the hero has the master criminal on his knees]
"I'm only going to ask you one more time, WHERE IS SHE?!" <he works the action on his pistol/rifle>
"TELL ME NOW" <he thumbs back the hammer on his pistol/revolver>
Give me a break.

I thought of this, but it looks like that even when they show a zoomed-out shot that shows the guy from head to toe (sorry, didn't take a snapshot of that). I think the director said "That barrel doesn't look scary enough ... make it look lots bigger!" and had the prop guy make up this ... thing.

I've seen several low-budget, cheezy movies that used flimsy rubber dummies during fight/stunt scenes. :barf:

Animal Planet put on a real bad move called Rain (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0265611/). It was about an Army K9 in the Viet Nam war. (poorly written, poorly acted but it had a dog in it so we watched it ... the wife is a sucker for movies about dogs).
Among the other mistakes, the main character (Rain's handler) packed a Beretta M9, and the unit's "Sharpshooter" packed a 1911 with an MechTech Carbine unit on it with a reflex sight. Remember this is in the Viet Nam war.

My favorite is on Super Troopers. At the part of the movie where they are a t the murder scene the local police captain pulls out his gun and say "This is the spurburry police come out with your hands up!!"
You get a real good close up of his sidearm at this point and it is very obviously a Crossman BB pistol. You can clearly see the "half-slide" you use to cock it.

One that really gets to me is in BHD. IIRC its the scene where Blackburn is on his way to meet Eversman, the .50 cal's barrel (on the top of the humvee) just kinda flops around.

I noticed that part in SuperTroopers the first time I ever watched it, heh... I think I used to have one just like it.

I noticed that too, but I was under the impression that they filmed BHD with real live military equipment that was leased from the government. In the bonus features they specifically say that they paid the government for use of their helicopters and pilots for filming. Plus, I can swear I've seen real live footage of military Hummers with 50's on top that show the exact same behavior, but can't remember when...

In the first Matrix movie in the lobby scene, Neo drops an M16 and the barrel flexes badly when it hits the floor. It's got to be some sort of prop gun.

Give me a break. Wouldn't it be funny if somebody made a movie where everytime someone racked the slide, a round got ejected :p
