Why is the SigPro2009 so cheap?

Granted it has a polymer frame, but it is such a steep drop down in price from the rest of their line. I guess the DA only version of this is not the same "DAK" action found in models which are almost twice the price.

I have found these NIB as cheap as $379- SHIPPED. Is there a difference in quality elsewhere? Or is it just the polymer and non DAK double action?

It's a whole new concept as SIG made this SIG PRO in modules, grip and trigger are replaceable for different size of hands (similar in idea to P99), easy barrel change (threaded one, like), easy maintenance, easy sight replacing etc. History has shown that building something in modules (like a La Fayette class frigate for French Navy) does tend to keep the cost low. Maybe that's the reason? Otherwise it is a loved piece of ordnance in police forces around the world, at least that's what the SIG Sauer says.

I was wondering about that myself.. it seems that the SigPro pistols are cheaper than the sig P2XX pistols. Modules? is that why? they aren't cheaper because they are less desireable for some reason?

They used to sell for 500 or so. They never seemed to catch on though and their prices dropped.

As others have said, they used to be more expensive. They have since been discontinued and replaced by the SP2022, so the 2009 prices dropped.

I just got an SP2022 9mm. Compared to my 226/.40, the trigger isn't as nice (could have something to do with the much higher round count on the 226), and the hammer area internal parts don't seem to be quite as high quality as a P series... the rails don't look as stout... but, it handles and functions just like a SIG. The frame is lighter of course, and thinner, yet it has the same capacity as its P series bretheren. After a few more rounds downrange, I plan to carry it. I don't feel like I got ripped off at the $500 I paid. A NIB 2009 for under $400 shipped would be a fantastic deal. I was going to buy a 2009, but couldn't find one without the slide mounted safety for cheap. Also, the 2009 uses a proprietary rail, while the 2022 uses a standard rail. If the rail difference and slide safety don't bother you, go for the 2009... I'd guess its a fantastic gun for the price, if my 2022 is any indication.

You should find out if the ones you have found have the slide mounted safety. If was an obscure variant for a contract that didn't make it. So they were sold off cheap. I personally wouldn't mind the safety. I just wouldn't use it. When the ones equipped with the safety started appearing on the market, I had already gotten my SigPro 9mm ($420 IIRC). This was something like 2003 or 2004 can't remember which. They're reliable, accurate guns in my experience (I've since added a 2340 to my collection).

BTW, this is required reading for those who have or are looking to purchase a SigPro:

Definitely check out Ken Lunde's site above - he's a great source of info regarding the Sig Pro line.

Of all the polymer pistols I've handled, the Sig Pro feels the least like a polymer gun, rather more like an alloy pistol, and that's a good thing IMO.

Side-by-side tests against the P226/P229 (can't remember) can be found on the web and the results were very favorable. Essentially the pistols feel and shoot like a Sig. Very accurate and smooth shooting, less snappy than the P-series in .40 which seems strange but is said to be true.

I think they're a great pistol for the money and often overlooked. Most Sig fans want the metal Sigs, and the Pro just never caught on. Should be able to find a P2009 (no picatinny rail) for $450 or less these days.

Good luck!

I tend to think that they Sig Pro's were under rated. I owned one in .40 but sold it. I don't really care for plastic framed pistol's... That's my hang up though.. :scrutiny:

Yeah, police models- that's what these are for $379 shipped nib. DAO, and they do indeed have a manual safety on the slide.

Still amazing. I guess I'd rather have a glock, but at this price these can be had at nearly the pricre of a P89.

Would anyone take a P89 over a sp2009? If I was paying the same amount of money, it would be hard to buy a p89 instead.

I believe the ones for under $400 shipped are DA/SA, with slide mounted safety.

Yeah, most I have seen are DA/SA. However, these in particular are DAO, safety on the slide, and come with 10 round mags.

Haven't seen that variant. Most times, manufacturers leave off the safety with a DAO unless the contract specifies a safety. Must have been a failed contract or contract overrun. The 10 round mags are a bit of a disappointment if you're in a state that allows full capacity. Keep in mind that full cap factory mags are running around $45 (best price I've seen is CDNN, but I don't know what their current price is). That's another $90 to get the most out of your gun - more if you like to have 3 full cap mags. Do the guns come with the extra grip? Many PD contract guns are shipped with 3 mags and one grip (I've seen a few from other manufacturers that just have one mag with the gun and the PD buys the other 2 but haven't seen Sig do this).

I can hook you up with a guy that sells 9mm Sigpro full caps for $22, 10rd for $18, plus $6 shipping unless you order 5 or more; then shipping is free.

Alternately, if you are looking for 10 rounders, I have three that are still new in the factory packing grease/wrapper, that I will sell for $45 shipped.

For what its worth, I own a Sig Pro 2009.
Sig was making an offer I could not refuse at the time, including 2 mail-in Hi-cap mags ($20 extra, as I recall, but still a deal) as well as the 2 standards that came with the gun for $399, including a SIg baseball type cap and carry case.
Price is always a consideration but for me, not the only one.
In this case I had just come off the range shooting the smaller Sig 9mm carry.
As soon as I picked up the Sig Pro 2009, it felt better in my hand, and it was easier to shoot as well as carry.
Accuracy is acceptable, in fact pretty good. It is easy to sight in and polymer is not a problem. Lighter is better for me in this 9mm calibre.
It definitely fit my hand better than a Glock.
Caveat: It does not chamber all 9mm reloads well. I purchased Millwal bulk 9mm reloads and had to return them because the gun would not chamber 3 in a row. I changed to factory ammo and no problems. Also, I did have to run 150 rounds thru it for break in, but it was worth it.
The gun is reliable for safety carry and home defense. I like the decocker and also the DA on the first round, once decocked. When de-cocked it is like carrying a revolver while providing significantly more fire power.
Sig put real thought into this gun and why it hasn't caught on more, who knows.
If you can, get your hands on one and fire 50 rounds thru it before buying.
You may be as pleasantly surprised as I was. I like mine and getting a good price only adds to the pleasure.
